Bay Area Actives Have Arrived!!! October 6, 2006

Hey everybody it's been a while but I'm back and in action. Today I was in San Francisco and thought what the hell lets go check my favorite hunting spot and see if I get lucky. Well, it was late and getting dark so I only had about 5 minutes but I found a little family of Cyanascens and a mature Azurescen growing next to a few pinners. I'm not 100% sure if this is really an Azurescen as I have never seen one in person but its definitely active. I only took one sample of each and left the pinners. Check em out, and check out the proof of date. October 06, 2006.

Right on dude. The smaller one looks like it could be just a younger Cyan. Azure caps have a little more of an orange to them in my experience. But who knows someone could have transplanted some Azure mycelium there or something. Anyways good find and its a sign theres more to come. Goodluck everyone, and stay outta jail.

Actualy now that I look at that other shroom there it doesnt realy look like a younger Cyan. Looks like a deformed Cyan, probably the black sheep in the family lol.

Yeah, I'm thinking Azure too. The stem is rather thick compared to most of the Cyans I'm used to seeing. I have seen Cyans with thicker stems but it's rare. The cap is what really has me thinking Azure. The bell shape is not something I've ever seen on a Cyan.

Hey hoopershroomer, yeah i know, i was really surprised to find them this early. Previously, the earliest active sighting I've heard of in the bay were found mid October. As far as I know my Oct 6 find is the earliest bay area find yet. Anybody know of an earlier find?

it loks like a cyan that is stunted from the dry weather. Nice to see you sactown. We have to go investigate that cyanofib patch this year

Hey tahoe, good to see u again too. Are you referring to the cyanofib patch that was found last year in downtown Sacramento? If I remember correctly it was you who found them? Man, I'm so excited now with the season right around the corner. At this point we're just waiting for rain. None coming in this weeks forecast. Hopefully sooner than later. I'd hate to be kept waiting like last year.
A quick note about the mushrooms I found on the 6th. They were growing next to a sprinkler system. I'm thinking maybe the daily watering is what got these guys going so early. Either way, it goes to show that they're ready to pop in the bay. Let it rain.
