cobweb on my casing? (my first one)

This is my first casing i've ever attempted, so i wasn't sure if it was cobweb or what, figured i would post a picture and ask the pro's to be sure.
It's only a two cake casing...so no major loss or anything. I'm still learning

Well i was thinking it looked pretty thin and wispy, not like the pictures i've seen of others. Just want to make sure of what it is or isn't, lol.

It certainly looks like cobweb mycelium to me. In picture 2 anyways.

Sure. I'd give it a good dose of peroxided water until the casing layer's moistened again. Then lighty cover the project with foil or wax paper so CO2 builds up for good mushroom mycelium developement. Personally i'd give it a good soaking until the casing's moist again and then would cover it for a couple of days. Don't even look at it during this time. Then after a couple of days take a look to see if it needs more treatment. If it does, hit it again with the H202 water and proceed as I mentioned. Mix the misting treatment at 1:50, 3% peroxide to water. In cc's.

I'd spray the heck out of it with the 3% peroxide straight from the bottle. That's cobweb mold. 3% peroxide sprayed full strength on cobweb will melt it on contact. After spraying with peroxide, leave it open to the air with increased air exchange. Stale, still air leads to cobweb, so up your air exchange. You might need to make a second application of peroxide the next day. RR

thanks fellas. I sprayed it direct with some peroxide and it withered away to nothing, lol. I then gave it a nice misting and cracked my lid on my fc to get some more air moving.

Thanks! I do refer to good pictures as examples, in order to show the difference between healthy mushroom mycellium and contamination.

Err, Hotnuts and RR. Are you pulling his leg? Excessive water levels contribute to cobweb growth. Open air invites contams. CO2 isnt ideal for the mycel at all.. ???

No, we're not pulling his leg. Peroxided water or peroxide from the bottle easily kills off cobweb mold, as well as all of the mold spores it comes in contact with. And yes, higher CO2 levels do promote mushroom mycelia developement quicker than lower levels if the gases are allowed to exchange properly.
That casing layer is very dry, which is why we advised him to heavily mist it. And misting it well with peroxide or peroxided water will not only get the casings moisture content back on track, but will also deeply penetrate the layer allowing for the peroxide to kill off cobweb and its spores deeper into the casing.
I simply advised a mixture with water so the peroxide doesn't cause the casing to be caustic from the heavy mist. It may not go caustic though. Who knows.

Aha! You learn new things every day Is there any sheets that specifies optimal CO2 levels with gas exchange for optimal growth? Is this strain dependent?

Also, open air does NOT lead to contamination, it prevents it. Casing layers are not, and should not be, sterile.
You must always assume that contaminant spores by the thousands or millions are landing on your substrate/casing. That is a fact of life. The trick is to not give them the environment to germinate and grow. Stale, still air is that environment. Moving, fresh air will stimulate the mushroom mycelium, while being less than desirable for molds. RR
