Busted by DEA

Ok so a friend of mine just recently was scheduled to receive 1.25 lbs of some good bud from the friendly guys at FedEx only to have the DEA show up with the package. They intercepted the package and came to his house past the delivery time dressed as a FedEx employee, then like 7 of his friends showed up and searched the house finding paraphernalia, a skiz, and a small amount of cash. I am very concerned about what is going to happen to him and if anyone had any advice to offer. Should he get an attorney asap? What type of penalties/repercussions is he facing?? This is his first offense with no criminal record and he has yet to be charged with anything from this encounter. I just want to get some advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation and what I can do to help my friend out.

the best i can say is:
your friends stupid for ever considering getting it through any form of mail. especialy over a pound!!
if the DEA showed up, hes in some fairly deep shit. if hes "lucky" maybe 2-3 years and probation, but in all likelyhood i dont think we will be seeing him for maybe 4-5 years.

if u have the means to buy a pound of dank, he should have the means for it to be transported via car/bus. thats ridiculous and things dont look good for him. unless they have no way of telling that he paid for the pot. you cant control what you get in the mail. the paraphernalia kinda suck for him though

It was likely mailed from an area where the pot is very good, and very cheap, to another city where one can make a ridiculous amount of money from it. Absolutely anyone with a friend in another city can do it, and there's a reason why everyone doesn't and why bud is priced how it is. The answer? Sad situations like the one this friend is in.
Sorry to hear it. Get a good lawyer, and stop posting here.

Yes, he should get the best lawyer he can afford. He should also immediately give away anything remotely related to drugs of any kind. Go out, get a haircut, buy a nice shirt and tie for court, and get ready to fight for freedom.
Everybody that knows about what we has doing should help him by not talking to others about it. He's also going to be in a serious amount of emotional pain, so helping him out and comforting him with the day to day stuff will really be appreciated.
With luck, and a lenient judge, he'll have the benefit of a first offense situation... but he'll definitely need a good lawyer to keep him out of a fed prison for a set...

Get a good lawyer and let him do all the talking. Hopefully your friend didnt fuck himself when they initially busted him. If ever caught keep your mouth shut and get a lawyer.

if your friend admitted guilt at the initial bust, either flat out or inadvertantly giving up info on knowledge of package contents, then there is very little to help him.
thats a pretty open/shut redhanded case then, ya know?
also, this is a federal case. with multiple charges.
so hes looking at some time here.
the amount of drug really doesnt help his situation
sorry to hear...and best of luck to your buddy

yeah, after recieving a package full of drugs you look mistified, and say hmm i didnt order anything, i wonder what it is, shut the door. get a marker, write return to sender on the box and leave the fucker on top of a table by the door so you can remember to return it....

Yup...what zippoz said. If your friend didn't admit anything or open it up before they busted him he might have a chance with a good lawyer.

yeah i know. but what im saying is if he is planning on making a bunch of dough from selling it, he should have it transported. a fucking lb? some places you can buy that for $2000 and some places you can sell it for $4000, maybe more. pay someone $500 to transport it. if its really really far away, drive and meet halfway.

"some places you can buy that for $2000 "
I've never bought a pound, grown a pound, eaten a pound :P, or even seen one. But there are cities where you can get them for much less than that.

I would've thought a pound would be under the DEA's radar..
Was it the whole mailing thing that caused them to get involved?

Probably. State to state with that weight isn't surprising to have them involved.

1 lb isn't all that much. If it's a first offence he should hopefull be able to get off with minimal jail time. Try to get a suspended sentence. I wouldn't be surprised to see 2 years suspended. Meaning no time at all, just probation.
1 lb is intent to distribute probably though, but still for a first offence it shouldn't be too bad.

I would deny it was mine. I would say that I never asked for the weed. They cannot prove that you KNEW it was comming. Unless it was a setup from the beginning.

if someone were to accept any package/s (unknown) in the mail, you would just say you did so because you thought it may have been a gift. After opening it you could say you didn't know what was in it to begin with. of course that is only if that is the truth ;-)
myself though, I wouldn't take a p through the mail for free... crazy idea.

It doesn't matter. i had a friend convicted and sentenced to five years of intense probation for unknowingly receiving an elbo in the mail. It is pretty much a done deal. The only reason he got five years probation is because he really dint know.
