Really, logic is only about interaction between people. When it comes to imagination, relativity reigns supreme. However, it is when the imagination/ interaction line is blurred that we get conflict between people. If the unprovable topics are chosen to be discussed, there should be a caveat explaining that the topics cannot be proven and so forth...
However, when your interaction is somewhat dependent on your particular unprovable dogma, we run into problems. True, nobody is perfect, but basing your interaction (even loosely) on logic allows for LESS misinterpretation and better feedback (you're posting here for feedback, right?). So, if we want feedback from people with different perspectives on the world, then we have to interact in a somewhat ordered fashion (so as to not offend or annoy... this keeps the emotional outbursts to a minimum as feelings have not been hurt).
So, a rational being doesn't have to be rational 100% of the time... they should only have to try (I know it is hard sometimes) to be as rational as possible when INTERACTING with those people with different points of view.
So, unless we are all agreed on a certain issue (like say, the War on Drugs... you'll notice, we never argue to the death about this. Why? Because we all agree- the WOD is bullshit.), I think logic should govern our relations in this forum.
Does this make sense?

I agree that in order to communicate we must agree on certain symbols (ie language) that are based on concepts and logic.
But in some threads it has been taken to a level where everything we say must comply with these laws of logic. Laws of logic do not rule this world, they rule our minds, and the purpose of this spirituality and philosphy forum is to discuss what goes beyond these gridlocked ways of thinking.
Yes we must be logical to achieve communication, but does what we are trying to communicate have to strictly comply? I should hope not.

Since when is anybody's notion of spirituality logical? This is half a spirituality forum, and you can't even begin to bring logic into a discussion of God or the afterlife because it just doesn't apply. So what should we do, not talk about these things?

OK, rereading your post I do see your point. We need a civil way of interacting with each other. But how about instead of dwelling on the methodology of how someone arrives at their thoughts, why don't we address their content? If someone posts a personal truth they have come up with, we should regard it as that, a personal truth. It shouldn't matter if aliens telepathically communicated it to them or if they arrived at it through careful reasoning of the facts. We can either argree with their personal truth or disagree with it, but under no circumstances should we say it is invalid.
That's just my thoughts. Does this also make sense?

nobody's view is invalid. nobody is here to discuss facts, although it seems you might be. to disregard people's opinions or assertations because they cannot be proven by science or even logic is tiresome, unproductive, and not at all in the spirit of this forum
