HOW dry?!
    #6136612 - 10/05/06 02:58 PM (17 years, 5 months ago)

Hi, I'm having trouble getting my shrooms ''cracker dry''. First I fan dryed them for 3 days, and then placed them in a desiccant chamber where they have resided for the last day. I checked on them and they are still bendable, though they do seem to be quite dry. Is it possible they could be dry and still slightly bendable?

I usually use lots of desicant, this makes things go faster, and there is less chance of the desicant absorbing to much moisture, and loosing its ability to dry your shrroms out.

You do want them to be cracker dry, yes.
A day or so, for drying once at the desicant stage, is nothing to worry about,
so, maybe add more desicant, or ,if they are fairly wet still fan them another day.
But they just may need more time.

My 2 cents.

still bendable means still moisture.  they're probably very very close though.

i find that even if you do get them to cracker dry they'll revert back to that somewhat flexible state anyway if stored in like a ziplock bag... just the little bit of gases that can permeate the plastic is enough to make that difference... so point is they're probably just about there.  if you do let them get them cracker dry (and its a good idea to do so) also consider storing them in something totally air tight like a tupperware or even one of your jars with the lid screwed on tight... perhaps even with a little bit of desiccant (you can use some in a coffee filter with a rubberband to make your own little desiccant pouches)

If they are bendable then they still contain a little bit of water. You can still consume them while they are bendable, or even wet. Are they thick? maybe you can cut them down the middle of the stem or even into smaller pieces and keep that in the desiccant chamber (more surface area). If you go this route, check on them every few hours.

Also see if the desiccant is saturated. If so, bake it and you'll be able to reuse it.

My first grow. Thanks all.
