I used to live on the Big Island, never went to Maui though.

Assuming you are looking strictly for hallucinogenics, you'll have to be careful. Im sure there will be pasture land there, but, remember its private property, and Hawaiian's aren't too fond of white people and tourists!

There will be mushrooms growin in the cow pies, but, they aren't neccisarily going to be psilocybes or copelandia.. I am pretty sure that the most common there is Copelandia cyanescens. I think cubensis does not grow there.

I'm pretty sure cubensis grows there considering there is a hawaiin strain of cubensis spores sold on most sites. I think you are right though; I think Copelandia are much more prominent.

I think I remember MJ backing it up with proof that cubes didn't grow there( except indoors), but somehow it just doesn't seem possible.

Shroomery says these active mushrooms grow in Hawaii:

Hawaii
Copelandia cyanescens
Copelandia tropicalis
Copelandia cambodginiensis
Copelandia bispora
Copelandia anomala
Panaeolus subbalteatus

Don't know about the seasonal occurrence of them but that's not a bad list compared to a lot of states

I wonder why cubensis doesnt grow there - the climate would be ideal - im surprise Terence McKenna didnt try to get it going there, since he loved it.

Don't know if this would be the same for mushrooms, but, the Hawaiian government has always tried to keep it to its native state. They try not to introduce new species of anything....Example: There are no (wild) snakes in Hawaii.

Even though sugar cane and pinapple was introduced for farming... But, most of the time its very strict. Maybe that is a reason, but who knows.

As for the climate, you have the rainfall side of the island, and the dry side of the island. Not sure which is which on Maui, but, big island was wet on the East (Hilo) and dry on the west (Kona). Kona side would rain maybe 10 times out of the year, while Hilo, only an hour away would be raining almost every day, and had a more tropical feel.

The time of year isin't much of a factor  in Hawaii since they have pretty much the same weather year round.
