After months of hard work, we are thrilled to introduce our next generation content management system. This is the script which powers the site - it's how we organize, add and maintain content on the Shroomery. In the past, our content management system required staff intervention for all these tasks. With a few minor exceptions, such as the Trip Reports section and the Gallery, our users had no real way to add or update content on the site. This has caused our information to stagnate somewhat, and while we're still the definitive resource for mushroom information on the Web, we could be doing even better.
Enter the new content management script. Those of you who have used Wikipedia will be familiar with the concept. Instead of requiring all updates to go through an administrator first, any registered user can now add, edit and remove content directly from the site. By tracking all changes and allowing them to be easily reverted, we help ensure than vandalism or misinformation will be promptly removed.
The script makes extensive use of Javascript and DHTML to provide a fast and simple interface. It is designed to work in current versions of IE, Firefox, Opera, and Konqueror and Safari (without WYSIWYG editing). Because it is a complete, ground-up rewrite which makes use of many new techniques, you may stumble across bugs here and there. Please report them all! That's really great, i'm sure it will make things a lot easier. But it looks like the comments have disappeared on all articles. It would be cool if you could bring them back?

That was actually a conscious decision, for two reasons: first, we were starting to get a lot of comment spam and I kind of wanted to start with a clean slate. For instance, I recently had to purge the comments on the Java chat page because people said it slowed down their browsers. Second, a lot of the comments (such as the ones pointing out errors or adding information) are no longer really relevant. The point is that people should make those changes directly to the document. So I didn't want to clutter things up. But, it would be relatively easy to import the old comments so if a lot of people miss them I'll work on it.

Thought something looked different about the gallery. Good work! Just one note, the menus no longer work in Opera 9 (or possibly other browsers). I can bring up the menus, but when I try and click a link on them the menu closes. Just thought I'd like to bring that to your attention.
EDIT: Appears file uploading isn't working either, just attempted to upload some art, but the image is missing. It's content id is 9049. These errors are produced at the top of the page:

Oh yeah, if anyone's interested in running an open-source project, I'd like to eventually release this script under the GPL but I don't want to be the one who has to coordinate its development. Dunno if anyone is interested in handling that but we do have some techies on this board so I figured I'd ask.

I wholeheartedly believe this will be an incredible benefit to the information the Shroomery provides the world, and well worth the effort!

I'm confused about the vendors section, what are all these other sites listed now. Are they shroomery approved vendors? Where can I find a list now of shroomery sponsers... I mean we always tell people to buy from sponsers I can't find them any more without going through all the other businesses that are listed.
Overall, it's a very nice change I think and very user friendly. Great job!
