Yeah Amanita muscaria often grow under pine trees. I don't consume them. To me they are just pretty looking photo subjects.

Yeah, I'm in PA and I didn't think any of them grew up here, let alone in my neighborhood! On the master list of mushrooms in the FAQs, I didn't see A. muscaria. I wish I would have taken some pictures! I believe they're all gone now, the went away when it got dry. Any chance of them coming back anytime soon?

If I'm not mistaken, Amanita Muscaria also grow under Quaking Aspen. I've seen some muscaria look-a-likes, if nothing else under aspen in the past. Granted, there were pine trees near the same spot.
In any case, I know I read something somewhere about aspens and amanita muscaria.

They are all over the place during fall. I've seen Muscaria var. formosa right in PA. Just keep checking under coniferous trees. They are out right now.

Actually, I think these were under a blue spruce, and I'm almost certain they were var. formosa. I'll be sure to check under the Queen Aspen too!
If some grow back I'll be sure to post pictures!

Wow! I was just thinking about that! That's the main reason why I didn't try it in the first place, potiential death. O_o
Haha, that's funny, any outstanding characteristics of the A. muscaria var. formosa, that would stand out well against other variations, to the naked eye?
