Formaldehyde candles to sterilize work area

These are (or used to be) used in hospitals. A nurse would light a candle or two and seal off the room until they went out. They were used in rooms where patients who had contagious diseases stayed.
Formaldehyde is sold as a liquid also, I believe. I'm not sure if these things are still true because it was later discovered that it's a potential carcinogenic.
It is potent and used safely and properly would be a good easy way to sterilize the work area. Is this possible? Are these sold for home use? What are the pros/cons?
Basically I'm looking for a way to sterilize a small area in my basement. The place is pretty dirty. The floor gets damp when it rains and I've barely been down here so I don't do much cleaning up here. This is going to be my work area so I want to make sure it's sterile enough for mycology work. What are my options? Would just spraying Oust and then waiting for it to settle do the trick?

My first grow. Thanks all.

Oust is great. Spray it so you have a fog and when it settles, spray again, then go to work. If you stay in the hobby, look into a laminar flow hood. RR

thanks for the reply, but one thing I want to stress is that it is NOT clean down here. People come down here and get a runny nose, etc. My puppies used to stay around here, they used to take shits around here, etc.
I will mop the floor with a bleach solution and then wipe the walls and tabletop. Followed by two sprayings of Oust. Is this good?
What's the ratio of bleach to water I should use for the solution?
