Week 4 Football Picks
#6111165 - 09/28/06 12:12 PM (17 years, 4 months ago) |

Okay. This week is going to suck. Alot of these games are either between two good teams, or two really bad teams. Hard week to call. I have little or no confidence in probably half of these.
At any rate....
Last Weeks Record was 9-5
So, for the season, thats 29-17
Visiting team is first, my picks are in bold.
Arizona @ Atlanta - I think Atlanta will come into this game angry at the trouncing they got on Monday Night Football at the hands of the Saints. I think Denny Green knew this, and started Kurt Warner because he didnt want Leinart to get fucked up. Vick couldnt move against NO, but I think he'll be able to get it going the way they didn in the first few weeks against the nonexistant Arizona defense.
San Diego @ Baltimore - I'm sure I picked this one different than almost everyone out there. I'm a sucker for defense, and Baltimore is probably the second best in the league. And you can say what you want about their offense, but they have what it takes now to get it done if they need too. I like San Diego alot too, they have alot of weapons and could get it done, but I just think defense trumps offense anyday.
Minnesota @ Buffalo - I really didnt think the Vikings were that good after the first two weeks, but they almost beat the Bears, so that tells me something. Against a defense not NEARLY as strong as the Bears, I think they'll put some up. And I dont think I've picked Buffalo yet, so I'm not going to start yet. They're really bad, despite what people from New York might tell you.
Saints @ Carolina - I'm still confused about that Monday night game. I'm really not sure how New Orleans pulled that off. So they're undefeated now, apparently. I think Carolina is the stronger team, but if NO beats another good team, I'll have to consider them something real. But Carolina looked good last week after looking lost the previous few, so I think they're settling into their stride, and they should be one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the NFC, assuming they get a rushing attack from somewhere.
Dolphins @ Texans - The Dolphins finally didnt fuck me over last week when I picked them over the Titans. I knew they could beat SOMEONE, and while I think Tennesee is the worst team in the league, the Texans arent much better. That defense is ANEMIC, and if theres anything Culpepper and Co. need, its a weak defense to play against. Plus, the Dolphins can rush, so expect another beatdown of poor David Carr, the most sacked QB in football. BTW, did you know they took Mario Williams over Reggie Bush?
49'ers @ Chiefs - Ugh. Toss a coin? But really, with Trent Green out, Larry Johnson not rushing well yet, and a 49'ers team that can actually score *gasp!*, I think SF might be able to pull this off. Alex Smith is actually looking like a real quarterback. I saw him last year and this preseason look like a deer in the headlights, but now he's throwing it with authority and moving around the field. Steroids maybe?
Indianapolis @ NY Jets - Now, I know Eric Mangini is an old Patriots coach, and I know they shut Peyton Manning down with regularity. But he's not working with Teddi Bruschi and Roosevelt Colvin now, he's got some no-name Jets defense. And Peyton Manning is the best regular season QB in HISTORY. So I'll take Peyton, even after the roughing up they got last week. (Hey, they won, right?)
Dallas @ Tennessee - Phew. Dallas is in disarray, but the Titans are just dreadful. Is Vince Young starting this week? I think I heard he is, and that should make things even worse. I think Jeff Fisher is just waiting to get fired, and Parcells can get his players to do what he wants them to do. This is another one I could see going the other way though.
Detroit @ St. Louis - Another toss up game, as far as I'm concerned. They're both dome teams, so thats not a factor. I'm really just picking St. Louis because they eked out a narrow win last week, and it is their house. That said, I'm not impressed with either of these teams. I did think Detroit was better than they showed last week though.
New England @ Cincinattica - I love the Bengals. They're tough, they're loud, and they're criminals. I mean, most of us here are criminals in some way or another, right? Those guys all love to party too. Not to mention I hate the Patriots, they're playing in Cincy, and something is fucked up about Tom Brady. I'm not sure what, but he's not looking very good. Love Maroney though.
Cleveland @ Oakland - I see no reason for Oakland to think this situation will get any better in the near future. Is it possible Art Shell might not even coach a full season? How bad would that look on your coaching resume. Randy Moss seems to have found a place where nobody else wants to work every game either, a perfect fit for him. Meanwhile, I'm starting to come around to the Charlie Frye-Kellen Winslow connection. Kellen has a big mouth, but he's a fucking stud. I should mention, this game has two fat black coaches who look very similar to each other competing. Should be interesting. If they didnt have the team colors on, could you tell them apart?
Jacksonville @ Washington - WTF happened to Mark Brunell last week? If I was his minister, I'd be worried, because he must have given the Devil something of value to be able to play like he did last week. 20-something completions in a row? That has to be a fluke. He's never evne shown a flash of anything like that before. Jacksonville has a stout defense and I like fat little Byron Sandwich. Jags on the road.
Seattle @ Chicago - Game of the Week!!!! I cant wait for this one. Seattle comes into Soldier Field with their star player injured. Although he said yesterrday he was miraculously healed by the power of prayer, I hear Holmgren says thats bullshit, and that he wont play under any circumstances. That Bears defense would just rip him to shreds anyway. And as soon as Seattle drops into that 4 wide-out set, Hasselbeck is going to have guys in his face every single snap. This will be a great game. I'm really really pumped about it. Too bad I have to listen to fucking Madden call it. That sucks. I hate that fat bastard.
Green Bay @ Philly - So, which Brett Favre will show up? 4 touchdown Favre, or 3 interception Favre? The packers SUCK on Monday night, and they SUCK in Philly. Plus, Philly is the legitimately the better team, Westbrook is looking strong, Stallworth fit right in, and Mcnabb is healthy and throwing it well. That Green Bay secondary just might not be able to handle this assignment. I bet this one is high scoring though, one way or another.

San Diego will beat Baltimore.
Other than that I agree with everything, though I have a bad feeling Green Bay might beat the Eagles, since the Eagles D is banged the hell up.

Thing is I don't think that Green Bay is predictably bad like, say, the Raiders, or the Titans, or apparently the Bucs now too. Green Bay seems like the least predictable team in the league at the moment. THey'll either stumble or explode.

well as you remember before the season i predicted GB to win 6 games.. a 2 game improvement.. Greg Jennings the rookie has been playing amazing (like i predicted) and even Farve has been playing fairly solid.. shit they should have beaten the Saints 2 weeks ago.
