I didn't find a grain recipe comparison thread where growers share their method of preparing grain and what results they get from the mix so I am starting one here. There are several points that need to be mentioned and I am interested in.
1. Grain recipe
2. Grain colonization time. Please mention the size of the vessel you use.
3. Contamination rate.
4. Potency
Here is what I do. I prepare my grain according to this recipe.
1. Rye grain with gypsum soaked in week coffee.
2. With 250 ml jars 11 days, with 750 ml jars 21 days. I don't shake.
3. 1 of every 20 jars.
4. Above average.

That is a super high contamination rate. 5% contamination rate is huge in my book.  I had like 3 bad jars in all of 2009.  Also potency has nothing to do with what spawn/grain you used.

Well,  seeing as how the thread was 7 years old,  I was just fishing to see if it'd get any feedback.

You don't think that substrate would work huh?  I haven't tried it.  I'm doing a test run on it with 4 jars,  no lime though.  As it turns out,  without the lime the PH is 6.5,  even with the lime though,  the PH was 7.3.  I'll let you know if I get any results.  Any way,  I'm using straight rye for all my non-experiments.

I don't see why it wouldn't be good though.  It's fortified with all the nutrients,  complex and complete,  that would sustain healthy mushrooms for a possibly extended length of time.  Not to mention L-Tryptophan.  That's my hypothesis anyhow.  What do you think?

Manure with verm gypsum and coffee grinds is all the nutrients you need. The sub is best if kept acidic. Also why would you bother to bump this old thread? Just start your own:facepalm:

6. 270 ml organic/clean water.

I thought this last ingredient was pretty funny though.

Well bro,  I really wouldn't consider my tap water to be organic or clean.  Most likely there's fouride and chlorine in there,  amongst other things.  Now maybe that would all be remedied with pressure cooking,  but maybe not.

A dozen years late but I can't resist pointing out taht water is inorganic on account of the absence of carbon. So even if it's holy water certified by the Pope, it aint organic.
