Domain questions

Well, here's how it is. I have my domain name. Anyone can whois it and find my name and address. So really, if I host an image on my site and put it in a post here @ Shroomery, that would associate poke smot! with my real-world identity.
I'm starting to think that given my current situation, this shouldn't matter because if knowing my situation doesn't make it painfully obvious that it would be impossible for me to grow much of anything, a given LEO would be stupid.
Can you get in trouble for past grows you have documented? Also, do you think having personal info. attached to my domain is bad?

> Can you get in trouble for past grows you have documented?
Depends upon the documentation... for example, in US courts, pictures of grow ops don't carry much weight unless the person that actually took the picture can testify for the authenticity of the picture, time, place, etc. Of course, there is a difference in what police will use to help an investigation and what the courts will accept in a trial. The cops also aren't likely to go after you for grows you have done in the past that they didn't know about. It would be too much work to go after somebody that was small scale and isn't currently growing. In your place, my only concern would be if they were investigating me in the past and decided to carry charges forward from the previous investigation... unlikely, in light of everything else.

you have two choices , register in your own name or trough a third party. a po box doesn't do jack for your security when it comes to the authorities. domain registrations are public information. the trick would be to make a disclaimer and don't say anywhere that you have grown the mushrooms yourself on your page.

Some hosts like Dreamhost take measures to protect your WHOIS privacy.
http://dreamhost.com/hosting-features.html#domain_privacy
Quote:
Whenever a domain is registered, ICANN requires the registrant's contact information be made public via the "WHOIS" Internet service. This may seem like an invasion of privacy, but don't worry, it is illegal for anybody to use this public contact info for marketing purposes!
Unfortunately, nobody seems to care! Which means that as soon as you register a domain name, you start getting deluged with email spam, paper junk mail, and even telephone calls from sleazy folks trying to sell you stuff, scam you, or worse!
Which is why DreamHost offers the ability to use our "proxy" contact information on all domains registered with us, totally free! If you choose this option when registering a domain with us all paper mail will be sent to a PO BOX where it is immediately shredded. All emails will be automatically forwarded on to you (without revealing your actual email address to the public Internet). It's then up to you how you deal with them... setting up your own filter for domain-related spam would be trivial! Finally, the phone number given is just a recorded message explaining they need to email you if they want to get a hold of you!
Wowza, it's all so simple, effective, cheap, and private! And, to top it all off, you're still in compliance with ICANN rules requiring posting legitimate contact information with all your domain registrations!
