Innoculation question

Hello all, first timer here. Getting ready to innoculate tonight. I'm looking at the
MMGG and PF TEK. Confused about one thing. PF suggests covering the holes in
the top of the jars with heavy duty tape, and then covering that with
aluminum foil before steam sterilzing. Then removing the tape, after the
jars are cool, right before injecting the spore solution. And then recover
the holes with tape, while waiting for colonization - I guess to prevent
contams from entering. MMGG does not say anything about the tape, and says
something along the lines of make sure the holes are in the lid before
steaming or else they could explode. And no mention of covering up the holes
after innoculating. The two methods seem contradictory. If I use tape, I
assume that NO water will exchange while steaming. Without tape, it appears
that some water could potentially evaporate from the substrate and leak out
from underneath the aluminim foil. Also if tape is covering the holes during colonization, how is air going to be exhanged between the jar and the air ? Or is there enough air in there already for the entire 3 week colinization period ? Maybe with the lid looser, air can still get back and forth ? Not looking for a definite answer, as I'm sure everyone has an opinion. Just wanted some thoughts from experienced n00bs. Thanks you guys.

I put only foil over the holes(lid), during the pressure cooking and colonisation.

I just use foil also. If you cover the holes with tape, the CO2 can't leak out, and your growth will really slow down.
