Sick of partisan bickering
    #6117199 - 09/29/06 10:38 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Is anyone else like me in that they're sick of all this partisan bullshit about blaming everything on the other party or bitching about how bad a certain politician is? It's not that I'm sick of politics. On the contrary, I'm still very political. But I think that all this partisan heckling gets us nowhere. I think the issues are what's important. Certainly, the two can't be completely separated, as one needs to vote for the politician who best represents their views on the issues. But I think the issues should come first, particularly when it comes to debate.

Being an Aristocratic Transhumanist semi-Technocrat, I see partisanism as basic primate behavior. In a representative government, appearance is more important than reality.

It is tedious, its not quite as bad as that here in the UK, but Labour are doing a good enough number on themselves at the moment. So I don't think anyone else feels the need to spend time and money on negative campaigning.

My thoughts are that the political class have become bloated and increasingly authoritarian, especially in the UK. I think this is a general and unfortunate hazard of having too big a central government.

I think for a democracy to be healthy there needs to be a political hysteresis, a swing left to right to ensure government stays modern but does not run away with itself and start with their grand plans.

We can't go back, right? People seem to respond better to a campaign that empahsizes less issues, more character. Once these psychological secrets are tapped, I don't think the trend is reversed.

There's no denying it: attack ads are scrumptious.
