Casing a Casing
    #611477 - 04/18/02 12:26 AM (22 years, 8 days ago)

How would I go about casing a casing. If that is a little confusing i'll break it down.

I currently cased my jars (pf strain) into a tupperware container 12"x6"x4", and it is growing nicely on 50% Soil 50% vermic, no contams- 100% ok there. Now instead of just having one cased dish of mycelium i figured why not have 4? Is it safe and possible for the mycelium to be cut after it has colonized that casing into 4 separate pieces and re-cased in another container using the same substrate (50% soil 50% vermic) and have it grow? Or should i use another substrate (please note it is quite difficult for me to obtain bizarre supplies such as horse-shit) This is a shady area as I discovered- so I figured i'd ask in here.

All input is much appreciated.

Thanks

There's no reason that why it wouldn't work but there is a risk of contamination. I wouldn't bother, just try it with your next batch. That's what you get for putting all your eggs in one basket. If you decide to give it a try, let us know how it goes.
