Help! Any NZers in here?

I went for a look today for shrooms, and I didn't seem to find anything of interest, but it may just be my lack of knowledge. Are there are NZers in here that usually go hunting that can give me some pointers? And is it actually season yet?

Helllo I am in New Zealand in Nelson infact yes sunny Nelson. Perhaps thats why there aren't many shrooms around at the moment we need more rain but I can definatley say there have been a few Psilocybe Cyanescens (Gold tops, wavy caps) pop up around the house but thats probably only cause I've been watering the patches. Keep lookin man. Where abouts are you two?

in nz i had my first ever mushroom experience. It was Liberty caps ps. semilanceata. You have Ps.Subaeruginosa, Ps.Australiana, Ps. Aucklandii, Ps.tasmaniana and Ps.makarorae - which are all woodlovers except for tasmaniana which is a dung lover. Ps.cyanescens?? There are variants of subaeruginosa that go wavy - you sure about that id??? We thought we had ps.Cyanescens in melb, but MJshroomer and a few others have questioned that macroscopic id.

I'm in the Auckland region, but I guess the weather hasn't been right. A bit weird weather, really sunny on days, then wet on others. However, I did see a few little babies ready to pop up, but not sure if these were actually shrooms. The photos on the erowid.org mushroom section are a bit hard to compare with the ones in the field, and I haven't found any site that has detailed descriptions (stem, colour, season, spore colours, cap, etc). But something strange happened last week. I looked out at my lawn, and there's 2 patches of mushrooms growing. My lawn is like a barren grass/dirt strip. The mushrooms are a sort of weird white with yellow tint to them, the inside of the stem is a faint yellow, and I tried doing a spore print, but nothing appeared on the paper (so I guess I did it wrong).

Good news. The weather here is miserable. I watched the news and apparently there's a heavy rainfall warning out, and it hits Northland at 12am tonight (24th). It'll work it's way down the country and drench us all.

Here are the species found in New Zealand which are psychoactive. The first the amanita contains no psilocybine or psilocine but has ibotenic acid and muscimol which are the active ingredients in the Amanitas. All the others containe psilocine and psilocybine and related trytamine compounds. Also check my book, "Magic Mushrooms of Australia and New Zealand for more information on New Zealand species and locations. http://www.erowid.org/library/books_online/magic_mushrooms_aunz/magic_mushrooms_aunz.shtml Amanita muscaria, Copelandia cyanescens, Gymnopilus purpuratus, Gymnopilus spectabiblis, Panaeolus subbalteatus, Psilocybe aucklandii, Psilocybe australiana, Psilocybe eucalypta, Psilocybe kumaenorum, Psilocybe makarorae, Psilocybe semilanceata, Psilocybe subaeruginosa , and Psilocybe tasmainana. Good Luck, mj

Cheers for that, I've actually read that a few times in the past months. Quite handy. Next time I go looking, I'll post some rough descriptions of each shroom (don't have a digital camera, unfortunately).

Damn. I should head out soon too. I keep having dreams about having some shrooms. Rather annoying, being as I've never seen/eaten any before. Everyone around here seems to be afraid of shrooms or have lost interest. Bastards.

Hey everyone I've been hunting a few times this week and woo-hoo I have myself about 2 trips of Gold Tops (I think Ps. Subbalateus) sp? I dont know the name but I know the ones I had a fuckin intense trip off these last year so it should be good. But the shroom season here in Nelson isn't really kicking off yet, we just had the 'first round' over the weekend with rains but its been dry all week so ya need to find some pretty moist places to be successful. Hey dude what are you saying damn about kiwifruit season? We allllways get our best shroom harvests from KIWIFRUIT ORCHARDS! Damn I would love to work on a kiwifruit orchard then I wouldnt have to be parinoid as fuck running across the rows hehe. Or did you mean damn cause theres a lot of workers on the orchards? Cause I can understand that. Anyway I gotta go but good luck hunting everyone I will post again soon and I am taking my camera shroom hunting with me so hopefully soon I will scan some pics for you all! Good luck with your fungi~

Hmmm, how annoying. Oh well. Guess ya just gotta allow for technology to fuck up now and again. But I lost my trip report How is everyone goin with their hunting? The weather has been shit here in Nelson (i.e. sunny, warm, dry) so I am kind of pissed off about that does anyone know of good kinds of places that still get shrooms when its dry? I spose just anywhere moist and damp. Oh well at least I still have my terranium, that fruits rain or shine

Hey sheepish , try checking under Roadadenuim( how it sounds ,not spelt) bushes ,especially if it's got bark chips under then .Thats where i found my mushs last season near rotorua . Can any one tell me of a lawn varity mushroom , thats a aqua green color ,with the older ones appear to be a tan color that have aqua green gill,in the manawatu. Also another one currently popping up thats a orangish cap, light yellow stem, with a fibris white stem flesh ,that turns black (whole mushroom) after picking within 3mins. later

im going out tommorrow most probably, riverhead is dead... theyve chopped down too many trees, destroying the most fertile ground ive ever seen, b4 it was well known, you could take hundreds of aucklandii away with you.... im going to try out woodhill... although when i went last week without a map, everywhere was covered with mountain bikers ARRGGGHHH... and i had no luck
on an aside, has anyone had any success with cultivating these using spore prints obtained from the wild? Indoor or outdoor? to the person who wanted to know the potency of aucklandii..... they have been rated 5th most potent out of 186 species, definitely a lot stronger than cubensis..

Thats interesting stuff! You guys are lucky! In one forest a botanist found five unknown psilocybe species - four of which stained blue to varying levels. So there is a lot left to discover in NZ!! I would love a print of any of your natives - preferably Aucklandi or Australiana if you can find those. All woodlovers found in Australia and NZ are highly potent - similar in potency from what i have been told by a Canadian friend as Ps.Cyanescens. You also have Ps.Semilanceata in NZ - the first mushroom i ever experienced while on holiday in the south island!

Hello, another New Zealander here. I'm trying to get into growing - I've ordered some spores from the U.S (Sporeworks). Have other new zealanders successfully imported spores? Do customs confiscate them? Should they take long to arrive? Is it easy to find wild psilocybes in the canterbury region?
Thanks for your help, Zeta.

Hope you get the spores. Don't know how NZ customs will react, but they shouldn't confiscate them. Spores aren't illegal here, I think.

it is too easy to find them in the canterbury region... at canterbury university, they grow everywhere in the wintertime, and the caretakers get up early to put dirt on them so the students won't find 'em.... this has a poor success rate however. your mail might be sterilised when it arrives, just a random thing ... im not 100% about this though, i was just told by someone

i've seen them at kmart, $200 new. but I reckon your best bet is to find one second hand, try second hand shops or cash converters, or www.trademe.co.nz or www.buy-sell-exchange.co.nz nobody cooks with them any more so there are a few for sale around the place. i got mine second hand for $10 from some old woman.. she kept telling me how i could make stews and soups and roasts. thanks ma'am. i just hope it works.

Customs isn't the problem, quarantine is. If they catch you importing spores of any kind they could hand out some really hefty fines. I've gotten seeds past them before tho, so I doubt a sporeprint would be much of a problem.
I ordered from MMA in Oz seven months ago and I'm still waiting...I think the second coming of Christ will arrive before my order does, especially dissapointing given I'm an atheist. How generous are ye feeling, atoning unifex?

Trust me spores are not a problem with quarantine and at the end of the day they are not illegal either. In Australia i often get cultures confiscated and nasty letters but thats the extent of it. MMA is history! Ive been told that we;ve seen the last of them - if your after cubensis then let me know and hi to Deepr!!

Hey all Woo hoo! - the season seems to be picking up! I hope everyone else is having good luck with their hunting and lots of FUN reaping the rewards of their scavengings! Pynchon, did your friend ever finish that Ps.Subaeruginosa grow guide? I was thinking that is actually kind of pointless, it is easier to just follow guides for Ps. Cyanescens or Azurescens as they have basically the same growing parameters (I did, and I have sucessfully cultivated Ps.Subaeruginosa - Pics coming soon!) Also - Any NZers willing to do some spore trading - both of local and exotic species??? Cause gettin them in is a bitch. PM me.

Lucky bastard. It's dead up here. Couldn't find anything close to an active shroom.

Jalien was colonising Subaeruginosa on cardboard - we managed to cultivate Subaeruginosa quite easily - with the one noticable exception to the use of Ps.Azurescens teks - we used native woods - Eucalypta and Pinus Radiata chips which worked well - my pics of cultivated fruits were a little dissappointing first up but ill have better pics of the second flush soon: all from colonised pine and cardboard left outside for the cold:

Thats got to be bullshit - ive got caught importing products that were rather more 'illicit' through the mail and ive never got anything more than a nasty letter - maybe he got caught with them on his person while entering the country?? Anyway the person knows Dutchie well from when he used to post on Drool Donkey a while ago - fingers crossed - i sent him a package of prints too - hope that wasnt a waste of beautiful spores BTW - SUbs are easy to grow by just transplanting mycelia into your own garden mulch - ive had amazing results just doing that - ill post a pic of Subaeruginosa on agar soon

I cased riverhead today.... nothing, not a thing... i know im greedy and cant wait like I should but you know how it is.. I found myself tired and sliced to bits with a huge gorse mountain between me and the car... I thought I would magically glide through it since I was too lazy to go the long way .. ouch . see my plan was to load up then go and see the dalai lama speak, for a total spiritual experience... but i just went to see him straight which is probably a good thing to do..;] see yall, maybenextime bluemeanie ;]

Ack, sorry to hear about that. Perhaps we will be blessed with some luck in the next few weeks (presuming the damn weather stops being so damn shitty).
