mushrooms and schizophrenics
    #6109446 - 09/27/06 10:45 PM (17 years, 4 months ago)

Does anyone here actually know from a medical point of view what would happen if someone that is schizophrenic took mushrooms. A long while after my friend started smoking weed he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. He is now steadily taking meds to stay normal, but whenever he smokes weed he hates it and all the thoughts and voices come back to him. I am just wondering if he would have the same reaction to mushrooms if he were to try taking them. He has talked to me about it in the past and I have told him that he should wait until I find out more information. Maybe it would work out and be a gaining experience for him, but I'm really not sure..

Psychedelics and schizophrenia interest me.

I know there are many people on these boards who at least claim to be schizophrenics and shroomies. Since psychedelics have been reported to bring out schizophrenia, i don't see how eating mushrooms after being diagnosed with schizo is a good idea.

yeah i live with a schizo and would not recommend any mind altering substances to him. schizophrenia comes in three forms, which kind dose ur friend have, lots of level one schizos enjoy shrooms. really it is a unpredictable disease and an unpredictable mushroom.

Any mind altering substance would just worsen his condition. Or he could use small dcoses as a way of rehabilitation, so that he can face his delusions and hallucinations for short periods of time and gain alittle insight into his disorder.

Read your last 2 posts. Read more about schizophrenia and hallucinogens.

Dont give advise anymore............

It just pisses me off when people who know nothing about schizophrenia talk about it like its their favorite past time.
.......An ability to write coherently also helps even if you are out of you element.

The "movie (a beautiful mind) has helped schizos", those "who are using these drugs recreationally", they would be tripping, (yes a tripping episode), "ohh sounds fun to me but, most schizos dont enjoy there delirium"........ Its spelled "their"............

"but its all on if he wants help him self"....................................really though, id rather not talk much about it. I do think you are an asshat who knows little or nothing about schizophrenia.
My mother killed herself, and you can probably guess why.
Try to stay within your element dude.

Hallucinogens could have helped her, but your advise wouldnt....
See what I mean?

Hallucinogens could have made her much worse, and id bet on the later scenario.

well first i understand schizophrenia i have ben around them my hole life, but yeah i somewhat get you. dont take what people say so serious dude, read what there saying not the words, i have my own personal problems dealing with communication and language.
the biggest FACT about schizophrenia is no one really knows its still a mystery. it has different effects on different people, and the movie saved my friends life, made him appear normal, but thats from person to person. i see no problem with what i said, but i expect no one to believe what i say i entirely, who in the right mind believes what the read on the net, and why let someones helpful advice bother you just because you dont like it. really i know that this subject could be questioned by any psyic major, i wasnt trying to be as a smart on the sub, its just how i communicate.

"dont take what people say so serious dude, read what there saying not the words, i have my own personal problems dealing with communication and language."

serious? you mean like suggesting someone with a diagnosed persistant mental illness take powerful psychedelic drugs?

From everything I have ever read it seems like the research into this subject by Proffesionals is severely lacking. There were a few studies but nothing was really determined. The disease and the drugs are both highly highly varialbe depending on set setting and other things. no one here or anywhere could even come close to giving accurate advice.

That being said, ones mental health is in their own hands. You can do whatever the fuck you want in my opinion, just be prepared to face some potentialy difficult things.

just my .2

"as for taking shrooms recreational probably going to set him in to an episode, a tripping episode?? ohh sounds fun to me but, most schizos dont enjoy there delirium... "
