blue cake? help...
    #611103 - 04/17/02 05:28 PM (22 years, 5 months ago)

I have just birthed my first two cakes. One was six days ago and I put it into a perlite setup and left it in cake form. It has recently turned slightly blueish on the top of one side. Is this bad, good?? What do i do? Also, I birthed another three days ago and cased it in a small plastic container with vermiculite on top. I left it in the incubator. It has already had a few spots of mycleium popping up (recovered faster than i thought) and I guess I should wait for this one to get some more mycelium in the valleys before initiating pinning. But it seems that as soon as I cover up some of the growth poking through, hours later another side pops up- should I move to the next stage? any help would be great!

I know that the cake bruieses blue where you touch it but this turned blueish after a few days. I thought maybe it was too dry or too wet? Maybe it is just where i pulled it out. Mostly I want to know if it is bad. It doesnt look like mold or bacteria though. Thaks for your help redeyedelf. I apprecite it.

Sound like you need to look into the various methods of rehydrating the cake, such as using a straw, double ended casing, or injecting water.

Good luck.
