Dr Blue Thumbs bags.
    #611088 - 04/17/02 05:03 PM (22 years, 7 months ago)

Im looking at the Dr Bule Thumbs site and listed are Pre-Steralized Rye Grain/Berries pilter patched bags for $2.35 1 pint or $4.50 1 quart.
Also listed are "Magic Bags" description being only: Small, Medium, Large, Ect...

Are these Rye Gain Filter bags the same as Sporeworks Myco Bags only cheaper?
What are these "Magic Bags"?
Anyone have experience with either of these?

Thank You

No the rye bags are sterilized rye in a bag with a filter patch. For these you innoculate with spores, the use a substrate or spawn. The Magic bags are similar to Myco Bags.
I have used the rye bags and they worked well. Havn't tried the Magic Bags.

Peace,
Bob

I thought the Magic bags were filled with compost with a seperate bag inside with spawn that you innoculate..The myco bags are not like this are they?

Yea your right. The bags are constructed differently, but what I meant by the same is that the Shrooms grow in the bag like the Myco bags.

Peace,
Bob

You are both right
we offer 2 types of bags magic compost bags and magic bags.
The magic bags are filled w/ rye grain in a sturdy bag that will stand up and are offered in 2 sizes

the magic compost bags are the same type of bags but they have a rye pocket that dangles in the bag you inoc this small pocket of rye and when it colonizes you tip the whole bag to the side and the colonized rye spills onto the compost and inoc's it and then you can fruit in the bag

We're trying the grain bags, and things look good already. We innoc'd last saturday with Tasmanians, and they're already colonizing rapidly. We're quite pleased, thus far. They're colonizing much faster than the Ecuadors in the Sporeworks bags, but we don't know if that's because of the strain. We're new at this. Updates as they come.

I'm trying the large and small magic compost bags with Pan Trops. Currently on day 3 , and the rye pouch has some white fuzzies in it.

I ordered some worm castings from Dr. Bluethumbs - and it came in a bag with a patch. I guess I knew what I was going to do with this when I bought it, but the bag threw me off. Am I supposed to leave the worm castings in the bag and grow in there? If this is stupid, I'm sorry. Enjoying the last perc's from surgery earlier this week - they make me a bit spacey.

You can put your spawn in the bag and let it colonize then take it out and birth it.
We have never tried to grow in the bag with worm castings so we do not know if this would work.
The reason they are shipped in bags is once the compost, straw, worm castings in pasturized and sealed we can ship it and it will arrive without contams.

Okay, I get it. Great. I want to mix it with straw and Black Kow, and try some with just straw. Haven't worked with the BK long enough to know if it works okay. City girl - shit in a bag is easiest for me, so I'm giving it a shot. I know this is real stupid, but I've asked several people and noone knows. What the hell ARE worm castings? Is it worm poop? Or the dirt they hang out in, or what? It doesn't look like squished worms, just kind of like really healthy dirt.
