Whats crackin. I'm in Co Wexford myself. Anybody going looking for mushies? I dunno if its still a bit early to be looking for shrooms, but I went out today into a couple of horse fields. I got nothing but wet though (wet trousers, not PCP!), and the horse chased me away. I did see a couple of mushrooms growing on some horse shit but they didnt look the may west to me. The thing is I've never actually gone picking myself, I have a good idea what I'm looking for (liberty caps) but not sure when or where to find them. Anybody got any tips?

Cool. Maybe by then I'll have found some decent shrooms!

I live just over the water.
I was out yesterday walking through a field full of sheep. There's always one sheep who thinks he's hard and sorta starts on you, making you do a quick divert in different directing. I had visions of me being mauled by 70 sheep with a group mentality.
Next time i'll take some mint sauce and a welsh man, they'll all run in fear,, .

Cool. I got chased away by a horse, but that was a few days ago and I'm going back out tomorrow. Lots of new shrooms were popping up, but I didnt recognize any of them. Maybe I'll have more luck next time...

if you want to go mushroom hunting for wild mushrooms and you do not know much about it i STRONGLY recommend going to the library and getting a good mushroom identification guide. mushroom hunting is an activity that requires patience. i believe that liberty caps do not grow directly on dung (unlike cubensis mushrooms from more southerly lattitudes) but rather can be found in grassy well manured fields growing in the grass not on the dung. if it's growing in horseshit itself it probably isnt a liberty cap.
do NOT rely on heresay or guesswork when it comes to eating wild mushies.
personally i do not go looking for liberty caps in the part of the UK where i live (i prefer woodland hunting coz woods are prettier!), i prefer hunting for edible varieties - chicken mushroom being my absolute fave (diced and fried - yum yum yum!!!!!) tho the season for those is at an end now. right now i am scoffing cauliflower mushrooms and looking forward to my first bay boletes and chanterelles of the season!
amanita muscaria are very common round here. and whilst certain of my identification i am nervous about actually trying them. maybe one day i will summon up the courage.
