Terrarium not humid enough
    #610633 - 04/17/02 07:28 AM (21 years, 1 month ago)

i've got a terrarium set up with a layer of wet perlite in the bottom... the terrarium is about 12-14 inches high. the lid snaps on, but it's definitely not what i'd call airtight. The trouble is, it doesn't seem to be getting very humid in there. i've had cakes in there for a week, and they aren't doing anything (VERY disturbing). They were fully colonized for a while before I birthed them too... about a week and a half... this is definitely not cool. is my terrarium too big? is it not sealed well enough? if so, what can i use to seal it better? is it normal for cakes to just sit there for days and days and days doing NOTHING? goddam, to come this far and have those cakes not doing anything... help!!

hey man i'm pretty sure it takes awhile for you to get some pins after you birth them. it helps for the temperature to be lower than the incubating temp. as well. as far as the humidity goes, if you are getting condensation (beads of h2o, etc.) on the walls it should be ok, although if you want to be 100% sure get a hygrometer. and that terrarium sounds fine to me. i don't think it has to be 100% air tight either, as long as it doesn not mess up the humidity.
