I can't resist a surefire way to make money. I'm up for it.
Let's define the terms --
-- when you say "right back up to where they were", what do you mean, specifically? The highest ever national average for gasoline prices in the US, or the national average on say August 10 or something? Pick a date and dollar amount you feel comfortable with.
-- what do you mean by "after the November elections"? Because if this is an open-ended deal, neither of us will be able to collect the bet. We need to agree on a date. How about January 15, 2007?
-- what kind of money do you mean by "I'd put money on it"? $100? $500? $1000? And is the offer just for the first taker or would you handle multiple wagers -- i.e. $100 for me, $100 for zappaisgod (because I know he's gonna want a piece of this action), $100 for luvdemshrooms, etc.?

With a moronic subject line like that, I'd be in. Asuming as Phred suggests, you're a bit more specific than your usual blustering and foolhardiness would suggest.

How much money are you willing to put on it? What are the terms?
I agree with Phred, I am up to make money on the ignorance of others.

So, when you refer to "Republican Sponsors" are you talking about OPEC? Because OPEC's pretty sure that oil prices are likely to fall throughout the coming year,
From the Secretary General's Report, 142nd OPEC Meeting, September 2006:
"Having reviewed the current oil market, the Conference noted that action taken by OPEC Member Countries to increase production over the preceding several years has led to a continued build-up in inventory levels, especially of crude, which now stand comfortably above their five-year average, more than adequate to ease concerns in the market about potential supply disruptions or worries arising from geopolitical tensions.
The Conference noted that, growth in crude oil supply in recent years has continued to exceed growth in demand - the rebound in non-OPEC supply in 2007 is predicted to be at its highest level since 1984 – and that market fundamentals indicate a clear imbalance between supply and demand. Prices having moderated substantially in recent weeks, the Conference reiterated that the Organization will continue its proactive policy of supporting market stability by restoring a balance between supply and demand, at prices reasonable to both producers and consumers and conducive to continued world economic growth, especially in the developing countries, to which end Member Countries are continuing their high-cost production capacity expansion programmes." Available here: http://www.opec.org/opecna/Press%20Releases/2006/PR152006.htm
According to OPEC's predictions, supply growth will continue to outstrip demand growth into 2007, which means a continued decline in oil prices.
Of course, maybe OPEC's just a bunch of Republican Stooges, since that's what I'd expect from an organization where 6 of the 11 members are Algeria, Libya, Indonesia, Iran, Nigeria, and Venezuela...
BTW - I'd like to get in on betting if anyone's still interested (and Phred's terms can be nailed-down)

I have heard that there is speculation about cutting production, but until an official announcement, their official word is still to maintain production.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14773938
Also, their next official meeting isn't until December 14th ( http://www.opec.org/home/press%20room/meetings.htm ) so, it's not likely that major action will take place at least until then.

Phred, I don't bet money, but I'll make a "gentleman's wager" with you. If by the end of January, gas prices aren't back to where they were at the end of August, I'll admit I was wrong. Deal?

If repubs loose gas prices will be up by end of nov or early dec, if the repubs win gas prices might stay low till feb...if that.
