I am looking for psilocybin mushrooms in Southwest Florida, in cow pastures around the fringes of cities. Though I once had limited succes growing a few psilocybin cubensis mushrooms at home in a coat closet, and am familiar with their appearance, it is an altogehter different story for me to determine if the ones growing in the wild, in cow dung, are psilocybin or something else. I have been warned that there are coprophilic mushrooms that are poisonous, even deadly, so I'd like to make sure the ones I am finding are psilocybin before I ingest them. The ones I have come across do in same cases have veils, but lack the copper-brownish tinges to the caps; they seem more whitish and also, they do not bruise blue. There have been rumors for years that ranchers put chemicals in their cattle feed to prevent the mushrooms from growing, or to make them poisonous if they do grow. Since I only pick mushrooms from pastures containing grass-fed cattle, this is not an issue with me, but still, with all the disinfo about the topic, it is something I'd like clarified. Also, is it true that psilocybin cubensis will grow only on the dung of cattle from the brahman variety? I don't think this is necessarily so but it must have been in something I read long ago, maybe McKenna. There has been much rain here lately and the pastures are soaked, but I have been finding some mushrooms here and there growing from the dung, not in the forested parts of pastures, which I would expect because of the intense heat and sun here, but in the open areas. Any help you could give me about positive identification would be most appreciated, and yes, I have read through the guide. What would be really helpful are large multi-angled photos of POISONOUS dung-loving mushrooms side-by-side with the same kinds of photos of psilocybin dung-loving mushrooms, so we could compare and contrast. Thank you.

White cap with veil could be lepiota, grow along side with cubes.
Colors on any given mushroom can/will change with sun/shade whatever. It wont look like a perfect HG shroom.
If you've grown you should know how to ID them. Spore print-dark purple Veil-if torn will have spores on it,for field ID.
Make sure anything you consume is POSITIVELY ID'ed before consumption.

Thanks. When I grew them, I only got a handful, and it was many years ago - we're just talking a few mason jars' worth grown on horse manure medium in tiny closet shelf. But I will research lepiota to determine if it is toxic. The specimens of whatever I have are too small to take spore prints with; will have to return to field in a few days and get larger specimens. Do you know of any coprophilic species that are toxic?
