storing in honey
    #609839 - 04/16/02 08:41 AM (21 years, 11 months ago)

A guy came by my office selling fresh canned honey. I read here on a post once that shrooms will keep forever in honey. How does one go about storing with honey? Do you fan dry and then just stuff them down in your jar of honey or what?

i have heard similiar posts about storing abhorts in honey and have often thought about trying but didn't have al the details. i am interested if someone out there preserves shrooms/abhorts in honey what the process is for this.
do you put them in honey fresh or dried?
do you remove the fruitbodies from the honey after a certain amount of time?
what about dosing, i'm sure it depends on the amount of alkaloids you have extracted into your honey.
can you add it to tea? (ummm, thats sounds good!)

I m far from a pro Mr Jingles.. this hobby seems to be the type that the more you learn the more you need to learn. Now lets say I put some dry shrooms and some fresh ones in my jar of honey and its time to dose.. how do we go about pulling them out of our fresh jar of honey and getting a accurate weight? I know this sounds pretty easy but I m wondering.

Hi Southern,
Dude, you gotta try the Honey thing. A month ago I put 35 grams wet in a zip lock bag filled it with honey and put in the fridge. At first the shrooms got a little darker, I was worried they were rotting, but they never got any darker. My friend tried them this past weekend. He hates the taste, but loved these. He thought they were great tasting. He said the trip was even better, but that could have been because he wanted it to be. Anyway, I think it's worth trying.
Xazia, I am planning on putting some in a jar or something to make a larger batch. They are easy to dig out, just grab the shroom, let some honey drip off so its not real sloppy then down the gullett. The problem is knowing the dosage. You could put one dose in each jar, then you would know for sure. What I was thinking is putting enough for four people in a quart then just dividing them up. Not real accurate, but close. I don't know for sure but I believe the honey absorbs some of the Psylocybin and would be good on toast, or in tea. For personal use I think this is a really good way to go.
Haven't tried dry shrooms, but I think they would not hold up as well. Wet works just fine, and I think the moisture in the shrooms helps absorb the honey.

This method has Bob's Five thumbs up.
Peace,
Bob

P.S. Nice post Southern.

It's all good, unless you stupidly buy the WRONG kind of honey (like I did). If they float to the top, it's the wrong kind. See........ they tend to rot when they float and reach air (especially fresh shroomies). Then, you've got a disgusting black/blue glob of nastiness on the top, and some well preserved shrooms on the bottom.

Natural honey is best, the kind that hardens when cooled. Avoid the stuff in the bear bottles. Get the stuff that's really thick, like molasses, rather than syruppy. Hope this helps.

Yea Southern that's the right kind. I buy the same stuff "cloverleaf" from a guydown the road that has his own bees, and does all the processing.

Peace,
Bob

what your looking for is RAW honey. or unprocessed in otherwords. i believe any type would be ok i.e. clover, orange blossom, wildflower. i make mead ( honey wine) and pretty much know my honeys lol. you want strained ( removes twigs, bee parts, etc ) NOT pastuerized

i also thought i should mention since noone else does that if your gonna do this you wanna put like at least an OZ dry in the honey, the honey extracts the psilo so if you pull out the shrroms to eat them most of the psilo is leeched into the honey but if you dont use enough then you will have to eat a shitload of honey.... it is a great thing to do but just dont underdo it!

I also just throw all my abhorts in honey. My friend gave me a couple of jars from his fathers farm. It's pur honey, but the abhorts still kind of float up to the top. In the first place I bought the wrong kind honey. But the real stuff seems to work better. I was just going wait to try it until the jar was filled up with abhorts. I won't know the dosage, but who cares about does anyway.

so if you were to use this honey as a sweetener in a tea for instance (hot tea) would the heat from the tea destroy the psychoactive alkaloids in the honey?

you wouldnt have to worry about it if you added it when it was cool enough to drink
