casing probs
    #609728 - 04/16/02 07:36 AM (16 years, 1 month ago)

15x10inch casing (from 4 cakes) , B+, verm/substrate/verm

in preperation for it's second flush: scratched, recased top layor of verm, put in the fridge over night, held in dark for 5 days, now it is in the light.
thing is, no mycilia has come through the top layer of verm (i made it a bit thin, because i thought it would have this problem), but there was one small shroom that grew in the dark from the side of the casing ( which i have since picked), but no sign of anything else going on. i don't know what could be inhibiting growth.
the first flush was also very week.
i am using natural temps of 70's day, 60's night, with good humidity- walls cloudy/dripping.
i don't think that the substrate has lost all its nutritional value or anything, cause not much has come out of them...maybe it lacks internal water supply? should i try to inject some water...?
what could be done at this stage to salvage my casing?

You should put the casing in the fridge AFTER the incubation. Cold-shocking should trigger the fruiting. If there isn't any mycelium, it can't help !
Your temp is too cold. Raise it, and you'll have more success.
If it's a verm casing, don't forget to mist a few times.
Change that, and it should really help.

ok, i've upped the temps. (btw i have been misting daily and fanning thrice daily)
could a hidden contam be thwarting myc growth, preventing fruiting? (any way to check for it)
