Did I mess up these jars?

Ok I decided that i would make up some rye jars. So I made them up, inoculated them, and then realized that I never added the knife tip of gypsom to the rye. Will they still work out alright?

Yes, gypsum is not essential.

wtf is gypsum?? I have read many articles and manual but i have never heard that before. could someone tell me what it is plz.
