better way to heat?

I currently have a space heater that keeps everything right at 85 degrees; the problem is it produces dry heat and is dropping the humidity in my tanks. I could use a fish tank heater in water but that would be a pain in the ass to get it to stay at the right temp, and I would have to adjust it every time I wanted to change the temperature. I thought about splicing one of those little wheel things that controlls electrical flow into the cord (what are those called) but it would still be somewhat of a pain even if I could access it from outside the tank. Any good ideas?

in my fish tank the fish heater i use has a thermostat built into it so you just put it ont he temp you want the water to be and it turns on and off as the water gets cold or warm its pretty nifty
