need help, should I birth?
    #609415 - 04/15/02 10:07 PM (19 years, 27 days ago)

I have a couple of jars fully colonzed and have been sitting around for about 2 weeks. I have followed the PF Tek and it says that i should have pins invitro by now but none are forming.

I have read people brith their cakes before pins form. Should I wait for the pins invitro or should I brith now and put them in a terrium???

Someone please let me know?

I would keep them invitro for as long as possible. Two weeks seems a little fast unless its a fast colonizer like a cambodia or something. Three weeks seems long enough. Then birth them and throw into your fruiting chamber. in about a week small pin heads will form. within two weeks you should see your first flush but BE PATIENT. These things have no set time limit. Good Luck!

okay... my jars took a month to colonize completly and now they've sat around for about 2 weeks fully colonized...

what next? I want some booms for me for a party in a month!!!

i want to birth them now, although i see no pins invitro, but is it better if i keep them in the jars till they start growing invitro? I want to let two or three fully mature so i can get spore prints too...

? DiZZey ?

if they have been fully colonized for 2 weeks, birth them now-in 95% humidity-
some strains dont do well invitro-
they will probably pin within a week, iof you birth them now-the mycellium network is strong enough im sure-:)
have fun at your party-

ya, fuck it, there is no need to sit around and wait for pins while they are in the jars. get them in your terrarium and give em light and a good amount of RH, they need both to pin and eventually form mature shrooms. why did you wait that long, i make all my cakes casings as soon as they finish colonizing, dont wait another day, get em in your terr and watch the magic happen, although i do advise you make some casings instead of cakes, but good luck anymway.

okay... i think i will birth it in a few days after i get my terrium fully set up.

should i dunk my cakes before sticking into terrium? I read someone's post saying that dunking after birth will increase your pins??? is this true?

Also, what casings are the best, I am growing Equadors PF TEK. Is Jiffy Mix good?

yes dunking can be good-i dont do cakes naymore, but i didnt dunk before 1st flush,if they were not dry-ecuadors usuallypin easy,i fruited mine at 78 degrees easy-the only problem i ran into with dunking,my cakes always seem to get the green ick alot faster then they normally did-try injecting some water in the cakes if the are dry-Roadkill swears by this-he is the cake masta-
strait verm is a good way to learn to case and get a feel for it-
50/50 is great and you will be very happy with the results

I think i will do one casing straight vermiculite and i have birthed my 4 jars... lost 19 jars to bacterial contams (i screwed up the formula by putting to much water in substrate)
