Question about a massive outdoor liquid spawn tec
    #607897 - 04/14/02 07:23 AM (21 years, 5 months ago)

I have a 5lb bag of Stropharia Ruggoso-annulata aka the Garden Giant from Fungi Perfecti. I also have a massive bed (6'*50') of oak wood chips. Since it would be improbable for me to make enough wood chip spawn to innoculate the bed, would it be possible to soak the chips in molasses enriched water and then use the water as a sort of liquid spawn?
Any one have any experience in this area of cultivation?
Questions? Comments?

Thanks

yep, its possable.
I do not know how good oak is, but it's not fragrent right?
you need to use a woodlover, such as azurescens or cyanescens though.
If the bed has allready been laid, you must be very careful about other mushrooms that you might pick from the bed. Around here when they lay fresh mulch (bark) a huge amount of LBM (little brown mushrooms) pop up.. enough of those are deadly to warrant concern.

I would use the spawn to innoculate a small section of your bed. Then when it is fully colonized would take portions to innoculate other sections and so on...

Don't be impatient. Will take quite some time to get a bed that size going.

Go fast slowly.
