Possible contamination? 1st grow newbie...

Alright, I inoculated 4 jar about 2 days ago. Got first signs of growth, but the one of the inoculation points looks to be growing a contamination. Can anyone identify this?





I have foil still on the top, waiting for confirmation of contamination before I isolate and observe.

Yes, the orange spots. They stand out quite well, and look like the start of lipstick. Anyone with some experience in this care to comment, I will upload more pictures later this evening if the growth enlarges, will be checking it in a couple hours.

I think you should wait and see as the mycellium colonizes more substrate....It`s early to tell IMO..

At this point, it looks normal. The distinct orange seems to be something in the substrate, not a contaminant. Remember, molds are also mycelium and won't have distinct edges at first. Lipstick mold also needs more than two days from spawning to sporulation which is what gives the red color.

Nice, clear, and in focus picture by the way. Perhaps you can share your picture taking tek so others who need to post pictures can duplicate your quality. I can tell by the shadow that the flash was turned off, which is one of the worst things one can use when taking pictures thru glass.

Glad you left a comment RR, been checkin' out your posts for a while now.

Here's the update with some more pictures of what appears to be red dots that are not growing or spreading (woohoo) with mycellium growing strong around them. So it looks like good signs so far, anyone care to comment.




And here's how my cakes I started about a week ago are doing...

And one with flash, just to see how it looks, LOL...


RR - I may consider doing that photo tek later on down the road. I actually just picked up this camera the other day. Canon PowerShot 5.3 MegaPixel a530. Its awesome.
