Week 3 Football Picks
#6077943 - 09/19/06 12:30 PM (17 years, 4 months ago) |
|
|
Last Weeks Record was 9-7
So for the season, thats 20-12
Visiting team first, my picks are in bold.
NY Jets @ Buffalo - I still dont like Chad Pennington, but he appears to be able to throw the ball. I thought his shoulder was done for good. They played the Pats tough, which tells me they should be able to beat the sad-sack Bills.
Green Bay @ Detroit - Wow. Both these teams are terrible. But really, the Lions are better than they looked against Chicago. They had a shit-ton of penalties on themselves, and the bears capitalized. In front of a home crowd w/ less noise, they should be able to get their offense in sync. Green Bay has no secondary to speak of, and I think Kitna can make a play if he's given some time.
Jacksonville @ Indy - This ones closer than it sounds when you first say it. If they were playing in Jacksonville, I might take the Jags, but at home in the RCA dome in the regular season, I have to take Peyton. Although if they dont get something from the RB's and Peyton has to pass every down, it could get ugly w/ Jacksonville's D. Those Indy RB's arent nearly as good as anyone thought they'd be.
Tennessee @ Miami - Okay, this is the third week in a row I've picked Miami to win. They've lost both times, but the quality of opponent is going steadily down. Now, they're pretty much at the the bottom of the barrel w/ the Titans, who really are probably the worst team in the league. If Culpepper can get them a win against anybody, its got to be Tennesee. @ home no less!
Chicago @ Minnesota - Yes, I'm a huge Chicago fan. I know alot of people are going w/ Minnesota going into this one because of who they've beat. But lets not freak out. They beat Carolina, who everyone thought was going to be great going into the season. But the Panthers are lost right now. And they beat Washington, who have NO offense. Seriously, none at all. The Bears will cream them on defense and score enough to win. I'm not saying it'll be another blowout, but I dont think it will be close. Bears by 13, say?
Cincinattica @ Pittsburgh - Too many weapons on that Cincinatti offense. If Ben is healthy, the steelers should be able to put up some points on that Bengals D, but I think you can count on Carson Palmer $ Co. to put up 20 at least, and I'm not sure you can count on Ben and Hines to put up that many. They wont get shutout though, no way.
Carolina @ Tampa Bay - Is Steve Smith back? I'd take Carolina either way, but they really need Smith back to make it a lock. Without him, Delhomme just looks lost, and Deshaun Foster isnt running for shit. But even if he's out, that Carolina defense should be able to scare the ball out of Chris Simms hands and make him throw 2 or 3 picks. The Bucs look really really bad. Firejongruden.com?
Redskins @ Houston - Like I said with Miami, if the Redskins can get their offense off the ground against anyone, it'll be Houston. But then the Texans dont have an offense either. Both these teams are looking bad, but I cant believe the Redskins wont be able to beat the freaking Texans. I cant believe Houston didnt take Bush. I think I'm going to say this every week when I pick against Houston, just because. Mario Williams, LOL.
Baltimore @ Cleveland - I'm not just picking Baltimore because Mcnair is my new fantasy QB. Although that has something to do with it. But I really think Baltimore is the better team by far. That defense is keying in and looking monstrous, and Mcnair is airing it out 300 yards every game. Meanwhile, in Theiveland, you have the coaches and players starting to bicker and fight, along with a shitty QB and a questionable, at best, defense. I smell something ugly.
St Louis @ Arizona - Kurt Warner against his old team. Not that that fact really matters at all, but its there anyway. Arizona seems like the better team to me. I mean, they havent really surprised anyone I dont think, but St. Louis lost to San Fransisco, so I really dont see them beating anyone. And with that Cardinals receiving corps having a bad week last week, look for them to rebound against a young and shitty secondary.
Philadephonic @ San Francisco - Just realized I was spelling Francisco wrong. I think. Anyway. Philly is going to be pissed coming into this game. They let that one get away from them on Sunday, and while they dont have Eli to smear into the ground anymore, they do have Alex Smith, and I'm sure they wont have any probems getting to him either. They sacked Eli 8 times, and NY has a decent O-Line. And Mcnabb put points up on the Giants D too, so I think they should have NO problem taking out SF. My prediction is PAIN.
NY Giants @ Seattle - Taking the Giants on the road over the super bowl losers. WHAT!? AM I CRAZY!? No, and I'll tell you why. First, Eli's confidence is at its peak. Him and the team, after what they went through last week, probably think he can do anything. In week 14, I'd probably take Seattle, but right now, I think they're rip for the taking. They dont have their offense together yet totally, and didnt play a great game. Personally, I think they were lucky to get out of 'zona w/ a win. I wouldnt be surprised if I was wrong on this one, but I still take Eli and the Giants.
Denver @ New England - The day I pick Mike Shanahan over Bill Belicheck @ home is the day I die. When have the patriots not had the number of the broncos? Corey Dillon, Lawrence Maroney and Tom Brady will run roughshod over Denver, Deion Branch or not. They've had alot of time to work on the offense w/out him, its not like he went down w/ an injury last week or something. They have those tight ends working. And the Denver Offense sucks rocky mountain oysters. No TD passes for Jake Plummer yet, right? And like, 6 interceptions? Bring on Jay Cutler already, please.
Hotlanta @ New Orleans - Vick rushed for over 100 yards last week agains Tampa Bay, whos defense sucks. New Orleans might be happy if theirs didnt suck too. Of ocurse, they have a bit better offense, and its the big return to the Superdome. But I cant help but think all those New Orleans people are going to be even more dissapointed. Vick and Dunn both have it working pretty good, and the defense is focking quick and scary as well. This one will be close, but if its a scoring contest, I have to take Vick over Brees.
FIRE ALARM. BACK SOON. WTF?!?!?
Okay, back. That fucking sucked. WTF is that shit. Piercing alarms and buzzers and lights flashing on the ceiling. Scary stuff when your geeked up to your eyeballs...
But anyway, I'm more confident than last week. I guarantee I'll lose that Seattle game, but I have to take Eli anyway.

Yeh the only game i care about is ofcourse the Seattle game...A friend and I have been discussing and we've agreed that this week and the following against Da Bears will be the toughest ones. I dont have much doubt that the Hawks will do just fine against the Giants, i feel their defense(assss usual) will slaughter the Giants.
Bears game, mmm i cant wait.
Go Hawks!

no way the bills lose their home opener to noodle arm and the jets. mcgahee is going to run all over them. he always has his best games against the jets and its at home. other than that i pretty much agree with you except st louis and seattle could pull off wins.

I'd be willing to bet money that I wont finish below 8-8 this week. Most of these games seem pretty straight-foward...

I cant do that.
GB looks SOOOOOO bad.
Trust me. i'm a Bears fan, i'm conditioned to pick the Packers to beat everyone, because they usually beat us. i had them as my superbowl pick 2 years. its gone that bad that fast.
They cant stop anyone, they cant score. I mean, the Lions suck, but the Packers are really really bad. Plus, this is a work pool, and I work in WI, so everyone picked the packers already, just because its their favorite team.
So when they lose, I automatically pick a game up on everyone else.

I still think GB is gonna win, but you have a good method for picking Detroit.
GB can score, though. Just look at last week's game.

I agree with all your picks except for Jets over Bills, Bears over Vikings, and Giants over Seahawks. The Bills and Vikings seem to be a lot better team this year than people expected (myself included) and I think Seattle is just straight up better than New York. Although that came from behind win in Philly last Sunday was impressive.

"Personally, I think they were lucky to get out of 'zona w/ a win."
The game was in Seattle, and the defense straight-up shut 'zona down. Wasn't luck, it was great defense. The touchdown in the second half made it look a lot closer then it actually was.

Like I said, even I'm not sure about the Seattle game. I could see the bills pulling it out too. But I fail to see how anyone thinks the Vikings are going to beat the bears. They've beat 2 shitty teams in a not very impressive fashion.
The bears have DEMOLISHED two shitty teams, and have the #! ranked QB going into the game.

Hey, the jets put up almost 20 on New England.
And if you dont think the Pats have a better defense than the Bills, especially w/ Takeo Spikes out, your silly.

idk if chicago will lose to minnesota, but it will be a better game than people are expecting.. minnesota has looked very dominant running the ball with taylor behind mckinney and hutch.. and that has also helped the passing game.. they are a VERY underrated team.

yeah i have willie parker in one of my leagues.. hes off to a very slow start. i wish chester taylor was still around. people would have to be stupid to trade him. when you can get 1st round pts out of someone who prolly went in rounds 5-7 thats smart drafting.
i picked up rex grossman in both shroomery leagues.. hopefully he'll continue to play well.

Thing is the guy who wanted Willie Parker proposed another trade...get this..
He wanted to give me Edgerrin James (behind that shitty O-line) for Willie parker AND the Seattle Defense. Does he think I'm a fucking idiot?

Seriously man...thing is in the beginning of the season I traded someone DeShaun Foster for Ben Watson cause my TE Jerramy Stevens was out for a few weeks and I have Tom Brady as my QB. Everyone made fun of me, OMG you traded a starting RB for a TE...whatever...when Brady throws Watson a TD this week, I'll get that touchdown twice, meanwhile my RB's have outperformed Foster and Foster is gonna lose his job to DeAngelo Williams.
But they still all think they can propose me trades where I'm the loser and that I'll accept them. It's fucking annoying.

I'm also trying to trade Brad Johnson for Drew Brees. I think that's pretty fair right there, if anything the guy getting Brad comes out on top. My only problem is that Brady and Johnson have the same bye week, so I need a good QB for that week.

So, 10-4 for the week? I'm assuming Vick and Co. will pull it out this weekened. Anyone really see it going the other way?
