how to mount a macos dvd under linux?
    #6076505 - 09/18/06 11:21 PM (17 years, 5 months ago)

I think this is a pretty advanced question. If anyone here can answer it, it'll probably be Seuss, but if others know what I'm talking about, awesome.

I'm trying to mount a macos installation DVD (actually just the .iso file for it, via the loop device). I'm having no luck so far though. When I try, it shows a few small files, but the bulk of the 4gb iso is nowhere to be found. I've heard that this data is in some kind of HFS+ filesystem on the DVD, but linux apparently can't see any sign of that filesystem. I have the hfsplus kernel module loaded, but that makes no difference.

Windows utilities such as daemon-tools can mount these dvds flawlessly, from what I hear, but I haven't found a way to do it in Linux yet.

The ultimate goal here is to get OSX running under VMWare. VMWare's built-in mounting function doesn't read the disc correctly either.

I've never tried it... you have HFS compiled into the linux kernel? You are mounting the disk as a HFS type device? Are there multiple sessions on the disk and you are only picking up the first one? Donno...

Edit: Found a bit of info... take a look at: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_hfsplus
