How do you figure out biological efficiency?

Say you have a dry bale of straw. Lets say the bale weighs 55 pounds dry.

How do you figure out your biological efficiency?

I think 100% BE would be 55 pounds fresh shrooms.

55lbs of dry mushrooms would be 100%.

So if you harvested 25lbs. of dry mushrooms of a dry substrate weight of 50lbs, the efficiency would be 50%.

Edit: That's wet weight, not dry. Sheesh :smirk:

I´m just reading page 55 of GGMM and it says: "1 pound of fresh mushrooms grown from 1 pound of dry substrate is 100% biological efficiency".

Shit! Sorry. That's fresh weight, not dry.

I don't think its possible to directly convert %100 of the bail into mushrooms. The conditions and type of mushroom will vary the outcome.

Its dry straw/sawdust to fresh mushrooms, remember mushrooms are like 90% water. With oysters it is actualy possible to get over 100% BE.

Not to mention P. cubensis, where a BE of 250% is easily achieved.
