Germination!
    #607336 - 04/13/02 04:01 PM (16 years, 7 months ago)

I innoculated :clears throat: excuse me, My late dog's great uncle's owner innocluated 4 myco bags from an EQ syringe this past monday. He was beginning to become discouraged as there was nothing happening. Today, germination seems to have occured in all 4. There are white, puffy looking spots in all 4 ranging from the size of a pinkie nail to a quarter in one bag.

Unless he is retarded, he believes this to be mycelium, and I agree.

That was faster than the ones I've seen. Colonization didn't start in one (of four) bags until 10 days after innoculation. One, after 2 weeks, hasn't shown any signs. I'm starting to see little spots of growth in the other 2 now. What does yours look like? The one that colonized first seems to have settled into clumpy nuggets in a few places, and I'm starting to wonder if that will have an adverse effect on further colonization.
What strain? What temp?

It looks pretty much how it did when I started, except for the small bits of mycelium.

The growth isn't anything impressive, but I was happy to see it nonetheless. Like I said, puffy white spots ranging in size from a pinkie nail to a quarter.

Ecuador strain.

It's in an incubator (2 rubbermaid boxes, one shorter than the other, tall one filled with water up to the shorter one, with an aquarium heater in it). The temp fluctuates a bit because the thermostat shuts off when the water reaches the desired temp, not the space. It's been between 80 and 84 pretty much.

I know what you mean, I was pretty happy to see that little white fuzz. I've got Ecuadorans, too. Let me know how it progresses, it would be interesting to compare.
