B+! Thanks Hawk, beautiful photography! In this picture it looks just like it looks growing wild oudoors in the woods. Hawk took this picture of a indoor flush. The B+, sure looks like an Azurescen to me, but I would not be sure without a spore print. Looks mean nothing, do they? I would like to take a poll. Anyone thinking this mushroom looks like an Azurescen in this picture please e-mail me with "vote" in the subject line. Say yes if you think it looks like an azurescen or it's own species, no if you think it looks like a cubensis.FMFarms is up running and shipping! We have all our strains plus a new Mexicana we have a "a" strain which is large and "b" the smaller which we released to the world before. We are only going to sell our own strains ezxcept for one. We are going to sell Hawks Ecuadorian due to the quality of the strain and the fact everyone is oput of spores and we have bunches and bunches. Equadorian Spore print is $15.00, we throw in a extra suprise with all orders for the Ecudorian, thanks for the spores Hawk! You did a damn fine job with this cubensis. Mr.G

I checked out the http://fmfarms.com site and I have to admit that it is the most bizarre spore site I have ever seen. The majority of the site seems to be more of a bitchfest against other vendors instead of focusing on spore selling. I don't even know what a new customer would think reading all of that and not knowing some of the history. Anyway, there are a few points I'd like to clear up regarding Mr. G's revisionist history of recent (post 1998) online spore vending and the Spore Works. Spore Works didn't get Mr. G's spores second hand from Hawk's Eye. I got them from Herben before Hawk's Eye existed. The Spore Works predates the Hawk's Eye by several months. The mexicana that FMFarms sells and says he hears being called B by the public is not the same B sold by Spore Works. Mr. G's mexicana was determined to be a small form of Psilocybe cubensis and renamed by Hawk's Eye to Mexi-cube. As with the B+ strain, FMFarms tends to sell cubes as other species. I never said that the Florida pan. tropicalis was actually pan. cyanescens. I did say that tropicalis has never been reported in Florida and that Mr. G's identification skills are so poor that it was likely just pan. cyanescens. I never checked it out microscopically at the time and have no real proof. Spore Works has never sold pan tropicalis. It is true that many of the strains sold today originated from Mr. G. But that is more an artifact of his being able to collect wild specimens and provide them right at the time when online spore vending was exploding. His strains circulated widely because there wasn't much else available at the time and now they have a good foothold. Unfortunately, his inability to discern a cubensis from a mexicana or azurescens added unneccesary confusion amongst growers that just now seems to be clearing up. The online mushroom community is much more sophisticated today than it was in 1998 and I don't forsee the same problems in the future. Good luck Mr. G!

I just checked out that site; A few interesting statements: RE: B+ "It was purchased as a Azurescen from JLF originally, then suffered a over-heating accident and survived, THEN by outgrowing some Panaeolous spores, a little chemical manipulation, and we had the huge, potent B+." Chemical manipulation? Panaeolus competition? Overheating? ??Chemical manipulation?? The other: "The REAL B+ does not look like a Cubensis, in our opinion, and the best pictures that show the disappearing veil, the huge gnarled stem and other uncubensis like features. . ." Gnarly Koh Samui's. . . This is my favorite: "The real B+ has two unique markers or tags. It will sometimes develop dark spots on the cap, and the spot will rot away to black liquid." I don't know much about cube taxonomy, spore wars, etc., but I know a description of bacterial blotch when I hear one

it's like a time capsule...
damn. That puts so much into perspective, it should be a movie!
I like everyone here or there, past or present. We all have the same goal, and interests.
We should all unite into one gigantic spore supply company, using all our resources we could all form together to lead a new revolution in mycology!
*sigh* i'm done dreaming now...

What the hell got this bumped?
Anyway, I gotta tell the noobs who didn't live through it, thats a good overview of the spore wars, but it's nowhere near the full story. There is so much more drama, comedy, intrigue, and petty backstabbing in the sordid history of the OMC, that it's amazing someone hasn't turned it into a 10 book series of trashy paper backs.
Seriously, it was good stuff, I'm glad I was around to follow it, they just don't make soap operas like that anymore.
