    #607037 - 04/13/02 04:01 AM (22 years, 9 months ago)

I am looking for the quickest and easyest proven method for eliminating the nasties from coir. Thanks for your time and help.

Last time I tried it I only used peroxide to sterilize and I got cobweb , green and black mold under steril conditions.

my friend also has never sterilized his coco and has only lost one casing ever to contams. your mileage (obviously) may vary, though.

maybe your contam problems don't lie with the coco?

take care! stay safe...

ps. if you feel certain that the coco is your problem, i'd try the "put it in a pillowcase and boil it" method that people use for other casing materials

yea, supposably you don't have to but my gnome throws his in a pyrex dish and microwaves it for 10 mins. Then he covers it up and lets it cool off in the fridge. This is after you add water of course

You could put it in a freezer bag and boil it gently for a few hours with a lid on. If you have a pressure cooker that would be fantastic.

I bake my Coco Coir in the oven at 350 for around 2 hours.

I put it in a pyrex dish with 2" of water above the coir.
The water bakes out...to almost the right consistancy.

No contams......yet

*crosses fingers*
