Reliability of Liberty cap Harvests?
    #6066911 - 09/16/06 03:16 AM (17 years, 5 months ago)

Just wondering if Liberty Caps (Psilocybe Semilanceata) will fruit reliably in the same places each year so long as the land is still in the same condition, i.e not overfertilised or dug up from the previous year.

Well i'm no expert in the science of it all, but from SWIM's picking experience, fields that have had good amounts one year and have had heavy picking have always been extremly poor the next season.

At least half a dozen fields SWIM visited which were once reliable are barren. I asked a similar question on the forums and at the end of the day there are alot of factors that need to be taken into account the reasons for whether or not they fruit again in the same spots

Probably not, but there is a way to preserve a field and speed up it's recouperation...

While picking, tap the caps of the mushrooms while carrying them. Doing this over a wide area will spread spores. It's no where near foolproof, but hunters here still maintain that it's a fair thing to do.
