Are honey mushrooms edible?
    #6064571 - 09/15/06 12:28 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

If so are they tasty and what would be a good way to prepare them?

Thanks in advance,

Tripple M

They are edible, but have been known to cause stomach upset in certain people.. be careful if trying it for the first time. it is suggested to only try a few bites your first time to make sure that your body does not have a "bad reaction" to them. They should also be cooked very thoroughly.

Honey mushrooms are like a complex of species these days. I've seen at least 3 different versions of the ringed honey mushroom... check out this link for more detailed info.. http://www.mushroomexpert.com/armillaria_mellea.html

I've tried em before with no problems.

i wouldnt be surprised if the stomach upset might be from slightly rotting specimens. alot of the time i find honey mushrooms, they are slimey and stinky with some sort of rot, even though they look decent enough to eat.

cooking any mushroom thoroughly before eating it would be a good idea.
