For me this seems to indicate yet another common raight between the three and strengthens Buchanan's contention that they not only share common ancestory, but may be locational phenotypes of the same species.
The other cystidia shapes are generally slightly different, but not hugely so. The only point that I can think of that differentiates these species is the woods they fruit off.

I am of this belief as well, have you tried examing weilii or the villaeri.

You seem like a very intelligent person and I would be glad to send you some P. cyanescens sporeseses, this season. I have also found, not unlike P. subbareuginosa, P. cyanescens show several different varieties, as far as macroscopic characteristics go. I have also been interested in this topic, which makes a great post by the way.

In your last sentence you say you would wonder (I assume you mean you would wonder about the commonality of ancestory/same species), IF the other two could be fruited from Eucalyptus.

Is that to suggest they certainly WOULD NOT grow from Eucalyptus, as a fact?

If so, that is interesting and I would assume otherwise.

Like I said already, you are welcome to some spore prints, from my finds this Fall, and I have run into several different varieties. I have found a small patch which resembled P. azurescens, but a bit smaller, which I'm almost certain will fruit again this Fall. If you interested in a grow attemp, with what I can give you (P. cyanescens only) let me know through PM.

Here is a pictuer of the P. cyanescens specimens which resembled P. azurescens:

hey BM would a RFLP be of any use in this department?? I was thinking perhaps I could use my lab access/project to possibly gain some useful insights into your theory?

Other than growing P. azures/P. cyans from Eucalyptus is difficult to impossible, don't P. subbs also fruit in a different temperature range?

Im talking about Psilocybe subaeruginosa AND Ps.cyanescens is reported to have fruited readily off eucalyptus by Stamets so the jury is out.

Oh, I see. Yeah, I misread your previous post. That's cool. And I'm sure P. azurescens could be fruited from Eucalyptus as well.

What temp range does P. subaeruginosa fruit in?

Very nice pictures. Wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that these species are co-specific, the overlap on the macroscopic characteristics alone makes me think they are.
