Of Moths and Flames...
    #6053812 - 09/12/06 03:08 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Goddamn it! Somebody locked that other thread, right when I was in the middle of making an off-topic reply. This thread is moths and flames, so please only reply with moth-related material; mothmen are acceptable, but not reptilloids parading as mothmen...

Hence, the name, MOTH...

Joseph Campbell liked to recount an amusing story about moths and flames in relation to religious fanaticism and asceticism...

"One night a moth sees a lamp, a burning flame enclosed in glass. The moth spends the entire night bumping against the glass, trying to become ONE with the flame. In the morning the moth returns to its friends and tells them of the beautiful flame it has seen. 'Yes, but you don't look the better for it,' they say."

I read that as 'humping' against the glass.  My first thought: "Joseph Campbell, you scandalous FIEND!"

The Hummingbird Moth... I had a mescaline camping trip that revolved around moths in the bathroom implanting me with galactic information and showing me their tubes.  I think they hold secrets that no other beings do

I also had a close encounter with moths while tripping, about two years ago.

They've just never left me alone, since then.

Dancing lessons, perhaps?

Towards the end of summer is a good time to look for Luna months, they're ususally about 15' up the trunk of Hickory trees.

funny you should say that.. a week ago i was in a dancing lesson (contact improvisation) and as we finished a moth landed on someones shoulder. he started to "dance" with it and we all laughed about that for a while!
it was proably the first human X moth dance ever
