Assuming you're talking about casing cakes: you add a few days waiting for the spawn to colonize the casing layer. But it's worth it :wink:

if you can get cakes to harvest in one month, you'll win a ribbon for sure.

most likely not going to happen.

time depends on lots of things.
no person here can give you a good answer, unless they have done
a proper experiment at home.

and most people experienced enough to do it will not use cakes.

It depends mainly on a few things:

vigor of spores
moisture content
temperature
skill of cultivator

I can get fruits in a month from spores, but most people can't.
It takes time and skill.

to basically answer your question:

adding a casing layer will add about three days to your grow.
what you will benefit will be worth more than three days of waiting.

casing is worth it.
