i'm thinking about going out too, mellowmouse! recent rain and high temps? sounds good....but I am a little worried that maybe the fields being raped last year will cause sadness this year.

I'll be out and about tonight too-- I'm going to check EVERYWHERE around Fayette County, maybe I'll drive further south. Anyone know about Senoia? I've noticed a bunch 'o fields while driving around there, and I'd be willing to bet... Anyway... have fun and watch out for the fuzz! Peace. PigInZen

After a tiring, unsuccessful night last night, I went out alone early this morning before work and found a few pins and a few sun-gooped mushrooms growing in a nearby field. I wasn't sure of the identification. Is there a way to identify before they are fully grown? A few of the pins I found were about 1/4" in height, white w/ yellow-brown spot on top and off-white gills. They were growing slightly undernieth a dry patty along with a few older stems that were purple and black. I also found a dark purple "goopy" mushroom (you know what I mean) growing from the same field, and it was emerging from a red clay bank. Upon further inspection, I found that the bottom of the stalk (the part hidden from light) had turned a greenish-blue hue. Any ideas? I think the weather is still a bit to cold here. Anyone else have success? Peace. PigInZen

cubensis have solid stems. if you can press on the stem and its hollow or not very solid chances are is not right. there are no spots on cubensis, when theyre water logged they will look dark on the periphery of the cap and stay yellow/brown on the nipple.
