casing trays using perlite terrarium viable?

i'v read some that casings require less humidity then cakes. I also remember reading that you cant really control the humid /w perlite, it just stays right around 99-100%
On the other hand it seemd like most of you guys do use perlite humidifacation /w you casings.
so i assume it's a viable option?
I'd really like to stick /w perlite humidifaction if it wont drasticly hinder pinning/caseing layer colonization.
thoughts? comments? experiances?
thanks guys

To lower the humidity when using perlite simply increase the air exchange.

unless your terrarium is just too big for the casing to maintain humidity by itself i would skip the perlite instead i'd just line the bottom with dry paper towels to catch excess moisture and mist the casing when it looks like it's starting to get dry LOST

Good point. A niced sized cased bulk tray in a terrarium will provide its own humidity.
One advantage of using perlite in addition is you can leave the lid partially open for constant air exchange and still have plenty of humidity. RR

If you're feeling in the DIY mood (and I have tried this before), you can rig a computer fan on the side of the fan blowing in and regualte the air flow by covering the fan with thinly stretched layers of polyfil until you get the rH right (you will also need 1 or 2 small exhaust holes). I did this in a large Rubbermaid tub with a CoolMist rather than perlite, so the only thing different is that you have to add more water to your pelite periodically instead of to the CoolMist. Honestly, it's more work that it's probably worth though. If you were gunna go that route, you might as well get a CoolMist.

thanks guys. Think ill do just that. use perlite and make a whole in the plastic, maybe stuff some polyfill into it.
