Not a full grow log, these were cased 28-3-2002
Ok, brf/verm= 1 pint.
Casing=peat/verm/lime/oyster shells.
Humidity/temperature=98+rh/70-78F
Did I miss anything?
Today 9-4-2002

Ok, this log serves 2 purposes.
1~ My friend also has bird seed/coco-coir casings in the same strain, so these can be compared.
2~ Cos I like posting her pictures [image]/forums/w3timages/icons/tongue.gif[/image]
Good Luck

BTW, i noticed some droplets have formed on the casing layer, that?s probably a result of high Rh, this is not bad but is better if it didn?t happen, try setting Rh to 80-85 range, that?s the best for casings, cakes like 95+ Rh though. Peace, MAIA

Ok, true to all grow logs here is 24 hours later (don?t know if I will keep it up!). Pins r looking good.
Maia, the droplets are a result of high rh and misting prior to pinning. The misting has stopped now, but the moisture is attracted to already present moisture droplets on the casing. They will be moved to 85rh soon. I was under the impression that casings need to be at 95+ until pinheads are pea sized, to prevent loss of moisture from the casing layer. Good luck

Update 11-4 (2 days from first post).
The coir on the other hand, is overlaid. The mycelium ripped through it. I have patched twice, no room left for any casing.Deep scratching has been suggested, but I think I?ll leave it a few more days. info: Substrate= birdseed, 1 pint Casing= straight coco-coir Humidity/temperature=98+rh/70-78F
Good luck.

Funny, I posted the overlay problem in mushroom cultivation, and suggested should I put a 50/50 on top. Only replies I got were concerning deep scratching. Thats why I like this forum.

No, I didn?t 50/50 case it, two reasons: A/ There is no room in the container. The mycelium is a the brim, and is now creeping over the edge of the container!! B/ I did not want to disturb an hyphal knot formation that may be going on. If it was a deeper container, i probably would have sprinkled 50/50 on at the point when I first noticed this being a problem (3days ago). Just treat it as a big flat cake now.......what else to do? I will post a pic later of the coir casing, along with an update. Good luck

Wow dreamatrix, those are very impressive, I?ve never heard of 180g dry off of 1 pint.. so i?m assuming thats 180g wet... but by looking at the picture, one could be fooled.. it looks like a huge casing . thanks for the nice feedback. Pavlovs Dog: >I?ve never heard of 180g dry off of 1 pint.. so i?m assuming thats 180g wet... Yeah, wet, but! I tried a little experiment....... I knocked the humidity off for about 2 hours before i took some caps for printing. They were starting to shrivel slightly. Too bad I can?t weigh them dry, after i get my prints I throw the rest away thescientist: yes, mulispore innoc. Pennywise: I have a few prints if you want to trade thats cool. Anybody else who would like to trade a print off these let me know. enter: >Please do another grow log soon. ok >Perhaps you could try to outdo Una or Anno at the Pan Cyans...(?) I?m not here to outdo anybody. I learn more off here, and hope others can learn something from this thread. I will post a pic of the coir casing later........ when I?ve showered Good luck

Holy shit man. Let me get this straight. THis is a multispore innoculation, on just cased birdseed, without compost or dung? How the hell did you get those size of fruits. They look like allt he same size as well. Thats amazing man, I dont understnad how you got a dense of a flush like that from just casing birdseed. Whats the specs on the casing with the huge caps?

PR?s are known for massive overlay esp on coir just recently i did my first PR casing ever with about 70/30 coir/verm and got no overlay; only a few aggresive patches. if i can get pics of it i will post them up it took over 2 weeks after shocking to pin and still no overlay. cubies just LOVE coir because of its density; structure moreso i think than its water retention properties; unlive verm which i believe is just the best at supplying moisture. i believe it is so suitable that you need to make the environment slightly less favorable. growing in the wild they will never get 95% humidity 24/7 agreed? i kept my temps after shocking between 69 and 75 and with no humidity gauge; but no condensation on the walls at all;they got perlite humidification in the terrarium and 2 holes on either end of the rubbermaid container (at bottom close to perlite) about 3x3 inches covered with MM filter disks. fan 1-2x a day. i would guess rh stayed between 70 and 85; but never any condensation. the misting to keep it from drying out was ended after 1 week and allowed the to layer to evaporate. the top layer would dry slightly and even the mycellium growth a bit; and pins formed appx 6-7 days after i stopped misting. coir is just TOO suitable IMHO and if youre not careful; overlay will come. only my personal experience tho. i gotta get me some gt?s; i want something that grows fast and still potent enough to hang with the big boy cubes (KS were pathetic potency IMHO)
-------------------- Holy shit people; COMMON SENSE! we were all born with it where did it go? maybe theres a tek out there to explain how to use it! BUCKETS BRIGADE left hand man!!!

Yes, 2 x 1/2 pint cakes or 2 x 1/2 pint jars of b/seed. Containers are 190mm x 240mm x 80mm ....or..... 7.5" x 9.5" x 3". My friend got them from her local garden center, holes in the bottom taped up, she has some without holes, but these are more expensive. Rh was maintained in the fruiting chamber by using a ultrasonic humidifier on a timer, pre-pinning was done in a large fish tank filled w/ perlite (99rh). Hope this helps! Good luck.

Pifco. Its difficult to find an u.s.h. here, the one I found I payed ?4 for on ebay , thats about $6, and retails at ?90 ($135).

A segment timer was used, the type where you push down the segment giving a 15 minute on period. This has to be experimented with and will probably take a few days to get right. Depending on the size of fruiting chamber etc. The on/off times used were 15 minutes/1.5 hours, as I said experiment because the humidity also fluctuates with the temperature.
Good luck
