Aluminium trays not good

When throwing away the spent compost the shrooms lived on, I noticed the aluminium got attacked, certainly by the acids excreted by the shrooms.
Could the shrooms absorb the formed substance and so become toxic ?

I dont know. What kind of acids are in shrooms? I have heard that aluminum gives you altimerz*... you should use glass pans then no worries.

no i wouldnt worry about that... smoking aluminum is bad... but are cokes are in aluminum, and i say if cooking and canning coke in aluminum doesnt leech the bad stuff then growing shrooms in it probabally wouldnt either, just lay down syran wrap first if your paranoid

The difference between cooking cookies and growing mushrooms is that mushrooms excretes some acids as metabolic wastes. This acid literraly disolved the aluminium (There where holes in the tray). The mushrooms could absorb the resulting metal compound as it does with the toxins excreted by some contaminants. If you then eat the shrooms this may then not be that good for you.

Some previous reports in High Times Mag (many years ago) reported that Aluminium had been linked to "Old Timer's Disease" - Ed Rosenthel (from Ask Ed) used to bring the subject up sometimes. The theory was that something in modern day living was causing this disease and they were suspecting the "silverware" (forks/spoons etc...) - thats usally now made of aluminium instead of silver was causing it.
I have read that this has since been disproven.

They tell you not to store leftovers in aluminum cans in the fridge....some people won't use most popular deodorants because most of them use aluminum as their active ingredient.
I don't think any direct link has been established, but I don't think the aluminum/alzheimer's link has been completly disproven either. I think it's a pretty obvious link, they both start with Al, which is the abreviation for aluminum! I hear the egyptians used to call it Aluminums disease.... Egyptians were so smart because they didn't use aluminum...

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

Some scientists were looking for what caused Alzheimer's disease...
The found that the core of the area in the brain was made up by an aluminam crystal formation, or something. Thus started the panic. But the aluminum cluster was very small, and people take in about as much in less than a month.

This is a nonsense advice (I know it?s not from you, Mycofile).
Aluminium cans have a thin inert coating on the inside, so the contents are never in contact with aluminium since aluminium corrodes in contact with acids.

I've never heard of avoiding aluminum CANS for storage, but I do remember in a chemistry class being told not to store leftovers in aluminum pots in the refrigerator, esp things with tomato sauce or other acidic makeup. Most composite cooking pots have some amount/majority of aluminum. Whether it's causative for alzheimer's or not, it certainly isn't good.

I couldn't say how accurate the connection between aluminum absorbtion into the body and alzheimer's disease is, though I was once told by a former chemistry teacher of mine (as if that makes it any more credible), that this connection is the reason that the antacid rolaids removed the aluminum flecks from their product.

Acid in shrooms...sounds like a good thing if you like acid. A two for one deal:).
Here are some pics of eroded alum containers.

The tray in the picture was 17 days old since containing substrate. I recycle all of my aluminum trays when done. I have since purchased a teflon coated tray that should work much better.
