Yoga nidra is a type of yoga, not a state. The state which one seeks to expose through yoga nidra is the same state as one seeks to expose through the other types of yoga. It's called -turiya- or transcendental consciousness. It is the pure consciousness of the individual with only consciousness as its object, said to be the -three in one-, or state of awareness, aware of itself, through itself alone. Identical to the samadhi of Patanjali, which he calls -kaivalya- or singularity.

hmm.

In that instance, has anyone attained consciousness during delta sleep?

My barrier is that when I drift off into deeper and deeper states, I always come right back up again awake. The "trances" are smoother and longer with much exposure and familiarity with them.

But I am not conscious in them, rather conscoiusness is taken over by the "subconscious" and filters out whatever it was I was thinking at the last moment, sometimes producing an "inperceptible" synesthesia, in that though "I" experience the hypnagogic phenomena I at the same time am not conscoius of them at all, as if you would be while tripping.

i'm going into light to progressively deeper states of theta, but I am unsure if there is much alpha or beta activity to accompany it, as consciousness does not seem to persist.

I can go in 5-12 times and never "fall asleep" so then after a while I roll over each time it happens then someone I go to sleep without realizing it.

but when i wrote this my intent to match mantra with breath persisted in me having a series of lucid encounters with seemingly non-REM dreams and curiousities.
