First grow, first cake, first flush pins. It is so darn exciting! I've been really babying this grow (have 4 casings of two BRF cakes each about to go into the FC as well), and I'm just thrilled overall.
Sorry about the blurry pics - I suck at taking indoor shots.

Thanks! Is that a decent looking pin set for a first flush for a noob grower? I'm guessing I won't see any more pins that have already appeared, and though a lot will probably be aborts, it looks like there's a decent number. What do you think?

looks good to me 
it'll surprise you if a majority grow (which they should, no reason to believe a LOT will be aborts) it should be a pretty lookin' cake 
only problem i see is somebody whos apparently got the hang of it with a mostly empty FC. fill 'er up those 3 cakes are lonely.

I'm working on it! My four casings are so close - they've all been patched and are just waiting a couple more days. Almost there!
About how long do you think before I will be picking the shrooms off the cake in that pic? 3 days?

They are the classic Amazonian strain. I have some Ecuador in the rightmost cake as well as 2 of the 4 forthcoming casings. Thanks for the good words guys! I'll update with more pics when there's a bit more to show.

They look pretty sweet man, they grew differently to mine tho, the caps broke off very early, i got very short shrooms, potent though!!
Im also a first time grower, some of them look like you can cut the veil on to make the head break off.

Those look great to me.. Congrats on your 1st grow...
I had that same digital Hydrometer with my 1st couple of grows but then it got waterlogged and quit working.. I hope yours lasts longer than mine...

Well, I goofed. I went to check on the cake this evening, and noticed that a couple of shrooms sneakily tore their veils when I wasn't looking. I plucked them, but noticed some blueing underneath on the cake.
Now, I had never heard of a cake blueing, only a shroom, so I pulled the cake out into the light to get a better look. It promptly launched itself from my hand and tumbled onto the floor, breaking off most of the shrooms in the process. I cleaned the cake off, rinsed it, and sent it in for a dunk to get ready for the second flush. Yield would have probably been about 25% more than I had, but I'm satisfied with 35g wet on my first ever cake!

cakes can blue without even handling them. it happens as they dry out. drying out is normal to an extent since they just pumped their moisture into the mushrooms.
next time, rather than dropping the cake on the floor, dunk it overnight to replenish the moisture and put it back in the FC for the next round.

Didn't know that about the cake blueing. Well, I ate those shrooms (they dried incredibly well overnight in my makeshift drier (also known as an old PC case with a couple of small fans) and they were VERY potent. I'll have to write up a trip report, but suffice to say I had a very enjoyable day in nature (videotaped a deer about 8 feet away)
