just trying to figure out what's wrong. i noccd up some popcorn grain... which supprisingly is the first grain that managed to make it without contams. i spawned to hpoo and cassed with 50/50. the pin set is amazing... never before had i gotten so many. unfourtunatley that's where the excitment ended for me. fruits are hitting around 1.5 to 2 inches. and allready some of the veils are opening, though at the moment the caps aren't spreading open. maybe i'm in the clear but i somehow doubt it. i have a fridge rigged, giving optimal temp ranges, and ultrasonic, and a cool mist ( honeywell wick type ) and they are piped together with the coomist constantly on, and more interestingly i found that my fan remote controlls my humidifier as well 9same brand0
does it sound like i'm doing something wrong? or is that just the roll of the dice? it's amazonian strain (multispore innoc.) i've heard that popcorn is horrible, awfull stuff... i mixed around 25% a good 4" of substrate, and about a half inch casing.
any ideas

The only thing I can think of that is not too far out is that your substrates and/or casing were lacking water content.
Also your FAE may be inadequate in spite of your auto setup.
Is this your first grow or have you used this auto FAE technique before? Maybe have to adjust your timers?
Could be something more obscure as well, but these would be the common problems.

for shure its your WATER! thats the problem i had w/ popcorn...
advice...when yer jars are done colonizing...add steril water to them and let em sit in the fridge for 24 hrs...then dump water and case...
for your casing tho...just dunk the whole thing...take it to the kitchen and fill it up with water.
aluminum foil on top, put it in the fridge for 24 hrss...
do this, and yer next flush on the casing u have going right now will be 3x as big

for dunking the casing... should i keep the pins there. i heard that the whole pinset is going to be all of your flushes. so should i just dunk the entire case then with all the pins.
i like the idea for popcorn grain. i've heard bad things, but i guess that was just for straight casing. it seems to be killer for spawn so far.
everything so far in my setup is automated, but i know for a fact it isn't FAE... that runs full blast all day. and as far as water content goes... that seems like it could be a problem. but i have the ultrasonic at near full, and there are sometimes puddles of water in a few places. i have noticed that occasionally i need to mist the cases because they were getting dry, but that was before i cranked up the humidifier.
the brf cakes that i broke up and straight cased next to it are producing bigger fruits and it's in it's third flush.
thanx for the tips about the popcorn... was thinking that next time i'll throw it in the blender for a few seconds before i soak and PC it. i'll try to check on water content for a while to see if maybe that's it, don't know, but i'll keep you posted.
many thanks for the help.

sounds like things are a little askew here and your automation isn't really helping.
FAE on "full blast" all day would dry out your casings. sounds like that was an issue. cranking up the humidifier until you have puddles is the other extreme and also no good. you need to find a happy medium.
i'd back off on both the humidifier and the FAE. lightly mist your casings by hand when they're dry and monitor their moisture content. the humidifiers should only run just enough to keep your RH around 90%... no more no less. your humidifiers aren't there to water your casing, they're there to provide an environment where the casing won't lose moisture to the air, and to provide an environment the fruitbodies can thrive in. FAE is obviously important but you can overdo it - that's the point when things dry out on you.
as for dunking them, yes you leave pins there. assuming they're pins and not aborts. you'll want to remove aborts because they're only going to rot on you.
beyond all that you said you got a lot of pins. that's just what happens. think of each flush as a total amount of weight that can happen. so lots of pins, means lots of smaller mushrooms. fewer pins, would be fewer mushrooms of bigger size. it balances out really. but keeping moisture levels optimal and working on your water delivery to the casing can maximize yields in either condition.

my only problem in setting the coolmist is that it has to stay on... there is no analog switch that causes it to permanantly stay on, so i did set it down to the lowest speed on that, and am working on balancing out the humidity acordingly. definatly need a better humidifier for the job though. it'd be nice to set up perhaps a digital humidifier to my ultrasonic, and have it come on to balance out the humidity to around a 90% constant.
thanks agian for all the advise. i think half the reason this hobby is so great, is that there is ALWAYS something to learn.
many thanks again. peace
