yea, tandem. i think you need a license to go solo. it's $150-$250 australian, depending on how high i decide to jump from. comes to probably 90-180 in american dollars. they take place here year round, cause it never gets too cold here, but i doubt it in america.

I have about 70 jumps.
My advice is to have fun. Ask the dude to let you have the toggles before you go up so that, when you are under canopy, you can pull one side all the way down as hard as you can. Beleive me, it will be fun as hell. If you get a cool instructor, he will let you.

tips - take a deep breath before jumping!
being a regular paraglider pilot who has a friend who likes skydiving i thought i'd give it a go when i was in queenstown New Zealand. did a 12000ft tandem with about 25 secs or so freefall i think. i loved the jumping out of the aeroplane bit (great buzz), i hated the freefall bit (the wind in my face made me gag and found it hard to breathe! i think my gagging reflex is stronger than most as i often struggle for breath if i am in strong winds - eg standing on the foredeck of a ferry etc)
once the chute opened things were back to normal as far as i was concerned. the decent under the canaopy was fine, i was given control for much of the time. but for me as a keen paraglider pilot it felt a bit crap - like flying the worlds poorest performance paraglider.
i'm glad i did it and all, but on balance i wont be doing it again. i MUCH prefer flying paragliders! - its cheaper and theres much more skill to it IMHO (no doubt someone will disagree with me!). on a paraglider the flights last longer (once you know what ur doing and when the conditions are right) and you get much more chance to enjoy the view!
u do need much more patience to be a paraglider pilot tho, many folk dont have that patience and for them the immediacy of freefall will appeal.
enjoy.
