Worhty question, H-poo Problem? w/ pics
    #6026557 - 09/03/06 11:58 PM (18 years, 4 months ago)

yo whats up guys. Just lookin for a little help from my friends....
what's up with the yellow on this "casing" on the left(first three pics) neither of the two have had an actual casing layer put on, rather they are just spawned h-poo. The third has Richey hawks 50/50 plus casing material and was just p[laced to fruit today (only barely visible in last pic.
The one in question has been fruiting for 10 days, just popped pins 3 days ago. its the yellow in the center i'm worried about. the yellowing looks like it might be more than myc. piss/jelly. i had cut off the corner last Tues due to the same yellowing. I thought it was myc piss after i cut it off, but now i'm worried. My humidity is at close to 100% (upper 90's) and only gets indirect light form the sun. Temps are in the mid 70's, sometimes a little higher, 80's maybe.
The last pic shows a sister cake treated exactly the same, but has white mycelium.

PS what up with the crummy pinset??

THANK YOU ALL

I can't tell. How long ago did it appear?

Your pinset would be improved with the proper use of a casing layer.

Thank you soooooo much for checkin me out, i really do appreciate it.

ANd, yes, i will be caseing from now on.

IMO it looks like a bacterial contam that the mycelium just couldnt fight off... you may have more inside the poo.. where did you aquire the poo from? how was it done?

It looks like a bacteria contamination to me. The horse poo was probably just fresher than it should have been which promoted excessive bacterial counts. Unless it gets a lot larger, I'd leave it alone. It is not likely it will reduce your pin set too badly. For the next batch, you might want to rinse and dry that manure or just let it sit out to dry better. It should not have done that.

That also can occur when droplets from the lid of the terarrium continue to fall on a certain spot on the substrate, leading to bacterial contamination in that spot.

Agreed. There's pins forming all around it so it can't be too bad.

well gents, it started to spread, the pins weren't growin very fast at all, and the pins around the yellow began to turn yellow themselves. I really should've taken pics, but what are you gonna do, uh?

Be good all, thanks for the well wishes and support.
